RW Tools - missing route

RW Tools - missing route
I've just downloaded RW Tools from UKTrainsim; when I open it up and click on 'scenarios', all my routes are shown except one; "GEML London-Ipswich".
I've opened it a few times with the same result. I do have the 'Mayflower' add-on with GEML.
Any ideas?
My intention was to replace an EMU that I don't have, with one that I do have in my stock list.
When I do open RW Tools, it does tell me that there is a newer version v7.0.29 from his site.

I am going to suggest (but don't have TS on this PC) that have you checked in case the route needs unpacking from its ap form? That's a common issue that prevents routes from showing up in RW Tools

Re: RW Tools - missing route
Be aware that the whole route does not need unpacking for RWTools to see it, just the RouteProperties.xml.
Re: RW Tools - missing route
I have had this route for some time now, and installed it and played it the same as any other route.
The only thing that is different is that I have added the 'Mayflower' addition from JT to it.
It would be strange if this was causing the problem, but different computer set-ups can do all sorts of different things!

Yeah, but playing it and 'seeing' it in RW Tools are two different things. TS doesn't need .ap archives unpacking, but RW Tools does (as Skyline posted, not all the files need extracting from the archive so that statement is a generalisation)dpettit wrote:I have had this route for some time now, and installed it and played it the same as any other route.

Why do you need to use RW Tools on it, is there a problem?
Re: RW Tools - missing route
On GEML, there are a couple of EMU scenarios for the Mayflower part of the route, that when loaded, tell me that I am missing that particular EMU. My idea was to replace it with something that I have got.
It occurred to me also, that I might try downloading RW-Tools from Mike's site and get the latest version but try it on my older XP computer to see if it is different from my current W10 computer.
I am still mystified as to why this particular route is missing, when all my others show up!

Re: RW Tools - missing route
So have you extracted the RouteProperties.xml from the .ap archive, or haven't you?

Re: RW Tools - missing route
Until you un pack either the ap or just the .xml what ever version of RW Tools you have the route will still not show up in it.

Re: RW Tools - missing route
The route isn't missing, so to add to the chorus.....
Extract the RouteProperties.xml file from the .ap archive into the routes folder (the one that has loads of numbers instead of a name) and RW Tools will see it--you may have to make sure the extracted file has the read/write attribute.

Re: RW Tools - missing route
Hi Guys,
Sorry to be a bit of a basket case, but I cannot find the .ap archive, nor routes folder or any list of my routes. It's either me and/or my set-up!
I've clicked on the window icon (bottom left corner) and scrolled through all that is there; no Train Simulator icon, only a Steam icon which only leads to a shortcut to Steam. (I am usually off-line).
I've also typed into the search box (bottom left but one) RouteProperties; .ap archive, and TS 2017 but all just link to the internet!
Looking at the contents of the D drive; I get to: Steam Library: Steamapps; Common; I then get to the Railworks folder. When I open this up, there are lots of folders but nothing that appears to help me.
Changing a loco/EMU seemed a good idea at the time but.....
I think that at this stage, I am getting out of my depth and probably beyond help!! Should I give up? Some of us just don't seem to have it!
Thank you for your comments though.

Re: RW Tools - missing route
Navigate to RailWorks\Content\Routes and look for folder number 00000038-0000-0000-0000-000000002013
Open the MainContent.ap with 7-Zip and drag the RouteProperties.xml out of the 7-Zip window and just place it in the folder alongside the .ap file.

Re: RW Tools - missing route
Thank you very much. I followed your instructions, and now GEML is showing in RW-Tools.
Easy when you know how!!!
Now I'll have to find the offending scenarios and try to affect the replacement EMU; wish me luck!
Thanks
David

Re: RW Tools - missing route
For info and future reference David RW Tools can unpack the route for you too. Some people with limited knowledge (like myself I should add) find that's the easiest way to do it. Let someone (or in this instance something) do the work for youdpettit wrote:Thank you very much. I followed your instructions, and now GEML is showing in RW-Tools.

Re: RW Tools - missing route
Even better is to use the routine in RW Tools that will extract just the single file you need to extract to make a route 'visible' to RW Tools.
When you get to the swapping of stock, you may find that RW Tools also can't 'see' some items of stock you know you have installed. Once again, these will be in .ap archives and the *fix* is essentially the same as the one for the route--extract the file that RW Tools is looking for from the archive.
Sticking with GEML, the assets used in the route are contained in the
..\Assets\RSC\GEML\GEMLAssets.ap
archive.
When extracting items from these .ap archives it's essential that you mirror the internal directory structure of that archive, so for the class 360 you need the directory structure of
..\Assets\RSC\GEML\RailVehicles\Electric\Class360\Default\Engine\DMCO
replicated, into which you'd extract the Classs360 DMCO A.bin file to enable RW Tools to see that particular vehicle. Likewise for the B and ND variants; the PTSO and TSO vehicles are
dealt with in exactly the same way, mirroring what's in the archive.
Getting that directory structure right is important, particularly if you produce scenarios for release at places like this---you extract the contents of a .ap archive into the *wrong* structure and the stock will work, but anybody installing your scenario won't have the items in the same place---the common error stems from how 7-Zip (in particular) will create an extra folder named GEMLAssets, so the path to the DMCO folder would end up as
..\Assets\RSC\GEML\GEMLAssets\RailVehicles\Electric\Class360\Default\Engine\DMCO
Many get confused by the .ap system, but it really is quite simple---there's nothing new in how the folder and files are organised, so essentially the .ap archive is just a .RWP that doesn't need installing.

Re: RW Tools - missing route
I'm looking to get West Highland Line (south) into RW Tools.
How do I know which route it is in the Contents folder? Some of them are obvious when you look into the folders but others seem to hold no clues.
Thanks,
Paul
