Perhaps you should be telling the developer that? You can't expect every TS user to know the railway geography of the whole world..
The Developer did not call it Manchester London Road - but instead he called Manchester Midland

It is nice to have a steam route where tunnels are set up correctly (in the long tunnels at least) so that those who use "Auto Fireman" still have to apply some driving skills and those who don't have to use their skills to avoid blowback.

Great route and well put together. Couple of problems for me though and this is meant as constructive advice for route author. Number 1. I was just about to start writing a scenario and I only got as far as selecting the start position marker. Problem there are no start markers to select. You have to except the default then drag the marker for miles to the other end of the route. Route needs a scenario marker file. 2. Some of the points are very tight on main running lines. You would have a job getting a 4 coupled loco over them without spreading the gauge. Apart from those niggles a great route

Quite a common problem, many routes *suffer* from this.
Dead easy to fix though, just collect the Lat and Long values for locations and put them in a .dcsv file (just copy and paste any markers/locations file from any route and edit it to suit) and similarly *borrow* and edit the corresponding .bin file to suit the location/name of the .dcsv and you're done.

Snippet of .dcsv file from SWW route....

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<cCSVArray xmlns:d="http://www.kuju.com/TnT/2003/Delta" d:version="1.0" d:id="1239932">
	<CSVItem>
		<cCSVItem d:id="2">
			<X d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="000000A07B16DDBF" d:precision="string">0.23947</X>
			<Y d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="000000407BB84940" d:precision="string">51.20486</Y>
			<Name d:type="cDeltaString">Swansea</Name>
		</cCSVItem>
		<cCSVItem d:id="3">
			<X d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="000000C0CE78E8BF" d:precision="string">-0.48193</X>
			<Y d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="000000C051904940" d:precision="string">51.57639</Y>
			<Name d:type="cDeltaString">Whitland</Name>
		</cCSVItem>
		<cCSVItem d:id="4">
			<X d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="000000005879DCBF" d:precision="string">-0.18658</X>
			<Y d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="000000407BB94940" d:precision="string">51.51702</Y>
			<Name d:type="cDeltaString">Carmarthen</Name>
		</cCSVItem>
		<cCSVItem d:id="5">
			<X d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="000000E06A1EF3BF" d:precision="string">0.183042</X>
			<Y d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="000000A0565D4940" d:precision="string">51.052079</Y>
			<Name d:type="cDeltaString">Margam</Name>
		</cCSVItem>
essentially just placenames and corresponding Lat/Long numbers, nothing complicated.

You don't need to do this.

Go to build>edit and load the route. Click the train icon to enter the scenario editor on the route.

Press 9 to bring up the 2D map and find where you want to start, ctrl and left click before clicking the co-ordinates arrow at the top flyout to instantly fly to your new location. Add new scenario marker at new location.

Yes I notice he has included the route thru to London Road but it also goes to "Manchester Midland"

And I notice you are "correcting" something I have said but not the other people who have posted - why?

Because nobody else has said that the developer DIDN'T mention Manchester Midland/London Road Peter.

Never an issue and I never use those markers but place my own markers exactly where I want them.
  1. Go into Edit a free roam scenario (or any scenario for that matter) and navigate to the desired place
  2. Select the Scenario Marker icon on the left next to those for Engines, Stock and Consists (looks like the front of a tram)
  3. Choose the type of scenario marker
  4. Place it exactly where you want it
  5. Answer No to "Do you want to save current scenario?" (because you are creating a new one)
  6. New scenario now loads - just fill in the details and you are away
Easy-peasy.

(Oops, I see somebody has suggested a similar way above - sorry for duplication but will leave mine in place as it is a little more detailed)

Thanks guys. Already know how to make a marker file. I was just hoping jetgriff would do his own detailed one. I did not know about the 2D map jump though. Thanks for that

That's not quite how I would put it.

I am sure John G would appreciate somebody else contributing something like that after the massive amount of work he has put into it and made available to us all at no cost.

You are very welcome.

Not only useful for the initial placement of a scenario marker as already discussed, but for hopping around to place your AI traffic.

Hi Chaps

Visited a TS friend today, and installed Chinley V3 for him, but it doesnt work !

I downloaded and installed all the assets required from UKTS, and downloaded the Chinley main file from the wotsawollybits website, and extracted it manually as I do with all such routes. There was an error message when extracting the main file, saying that it was corrupt. But all the scenarios show in the game, but whenever he tries to load one he gets a crash dump error message.

Could it be that the main Chinley file on the wotsawollybits site IS CORRUPT ?

Can anyone help please ?

Thanks

I have installed Chinley v3.1 and it works ok but did use the TS Utility for install. I have un-zipped the file with 7zip to view contents and work with the scenario files and no issues. I have had issues with the older locos but some work with RW Tools and swap out for new locos of the same class has worked. The class 2 2.6.2 is an issue but up dated to the v3 on UKTS and added patches has helped. The later class 4 cab is not a perfect match and has some issues when used with the class 2. Not had time to fully explore but an interesting route. Thanks for sharing

You could try the version from trainsim.com as an alternative. That one certainly installed fine for me with utilities.exe.
