Custom consists

I do not know why I had not done it before(probably could not be bothered!), but yesterday I created three custom consists to use in Quick Drive. Today, they are not in the Custom tab. Am I going to have to create a new consist every time I want to use Quick Drive?

They might be there but the game does not always put them where you think they should be.
I created a Consist with a BR Blue Class 86 and Mk3 coaches and it put the consist in a folder called Class 86 separate from the main Class 86 folder.

The fact it does not place the locos/units in alphabetical order does not help.

I create a lot of QD Consists and they appear is very randomly
If they are not in the main menu, look in QD Custom box and see if they are listed underneath Create New...
If still no good run clear cache in tools in settings

STILL if not around run RW_Tools

Click Route building Tools
Click QD Consists and fragments
Run List All QD Consists
Look through the list

Cheers John

Tried "clear cache" but no change, and I do not possess RW Tools. Thanks anyway.

How are you looking for the Consist you created?
I normally go to Quick Drive and Select the train I wish to run - I don't use the Custom Tab but just search for the train by the pictures.

It is worth getting RW Tools - one of the most useful programs that anyone using TS201x can have.

As an exercise I created a custom consist using a loco from the "gallery", saved it, ran the QD, closed the program, re-started TS and the consist is still there. So despite having all of the available rolling stock to choose from to assemble a consist, I can only choose a loco which is "cleared" for Quick Drive. A bit limiting, perhaps?

I created a Quick Drive Consist using the Non-RSC Class 76 locos and a rake of HAA Wagons.
Having saved the consist I tried the train and it ran ok.

So I closed down the computer and opened it up again, back it to the game and the QD Consist was still there.
I then used RW Tools to Create a full list of all consists but the one I created in Not in the list.
Searching thru the railworks/assets folder it still did find the QD Consist.

Not sure where it could be?

If all else fails, I suggest you download the search program 'Everything' from https://www.voidtools.com/

This program is freeware and once run the first time (to index your data), it is very fast at finding any files you have.

Custom QD consists created 'in game' do not show in an RW Tools search.
I think maybe they are stored in an AP file somewhere (I wish I knew where!).
Does anybody know?

Mike

No...the game does not add anything to .ap archives---that would mess up the whole idea of them.

Have any of you created a new QD consist and then used Windows Explorer to run a search based on 'date created/modified'? That would tell you where the file is stored, and as Mike has pointed out earlier it'll be in a 'Preload' folder.

Not quite - I created a QD Consist using the Custom Editor and then tried searching thru my Assets folder with Windows Explorer but it did not find the consist.
I created a list of all QD consists using RW Tools and it's not appearing their either.
And it's not in the assets PreLoad folder.

Well, seems both Mike and myself are talking &*%$^.....after doing the above it looks like custom consists are stored in the ..\RailWorks\Content\ConsistTemplates.bin file, not in any Preload folder. That would explain why they don't seem to show in a RW Tools search.

I had wondered if that was the location of QD consists created in game, though I thought that was actually a list of consists the player had created in the Scenario Editor, which is not the same thing.

Thanks gptech (may I call you Gary?).
In my defence I did say "I think maybe"... :D
I just knew they weren't in a PreLoad folder anywhere, like other consists and QD consists.
Anyway, you found the answer... thanks.

Mike
