I've been called worse, so be my guest... :)

Still doesn't explain why there are reports of these user created consists going AWOL though, once that file is written to it should reflect those writes until it's edited.

Had you run any 'clean up' utility?

As far as I know QD consists created 'in game' will ALWAYS show in the 'Custom' list (an alphabetical list sorted according to the name you gave the consist when created.
and...
They will also show amongst the loco picture list of the loco as described in the section <LocalisedEngineName> about 200 lines down in the bin/xml file.
This can seem to be a bit random because for one reason or another developers sometimes describe the loco in this section slightly differently to how it is named in other sections of the file.
If there is no name entered in this section then the consist will only show in the 'Custom' list.
I am by no means an expert, this is just what I have discovered as I go along.

Mike

Well, seems both Mike and myself are talking &*%$^.....after doing the above it looks like custom consists are stored in the ..\RailWorks\Content\ConsistTemplates.bin file, not in any Preload folder. That would explain why they don't seem to show in a RW Tools search.
Hi Gary,

Memory fading these days, but actually that should read 'Custom consists produced from TS2017 are stored in the ConsistTemplates.bin file. Those from RW_Tools are stored in the PreLoad folders in a similar manner to those QD consists supplied by DTG

I meant 'Custom consists' in how the game describes them Mike, sorry for any confusion caused.
As far as I'm aware though, we've all considered Preload folders as being the only place a QD consist would be stored.
