It has to be said, that TrainMapsLive does show your position and route
(up to the point you are currently at) superimposed on Googles' map even
if railway lines are not shown or not shown very clearly.
Asus Z97-K. Intel Core i7 4790K @ 4 GHz. 3GB NVidia EVGA GTX780Ti. 16GB DDR3 RAM. Sound Blaster Z. Windows 10 64 bit.

Brilliant Ash :)

Not one that I have seen before and you get the best of both worlds

Peter
EDIT - I presume the author will revisit the map to update where the railway has changed since originally drawn

Thanks all, some great suggestions. The online maps look good, maybe I should invest in a printer as well as a second cheap monitor. That will lead to a few more "how do I" questions in the new year.
As it's nearing my birthday and Xmas I think I'll treat myself to a couple of books for now and as recommended by the great guys on here I think Ill go for,
1) Rail Atlas of Great Britain" by S.K.Baker.
2) Railway Atlas Then and Now.
There is such a vast amount available out there in the world of the web that I greatly appreciate your help and suggestions.
Cheers.
Dean.

Dean, have at my post re passenger mode, if this type of scenario caught on you might find it really useful especially if you get that second screen. You could follow the map and watch the train ! in that order.
Cheers

Yes I just read your post re passenger view, very interesting.
I'll definitely have to buy a small cheap monitor, I like the idea of following the train live on a map.
The maps by Thulin also look very good.
Cheers guys.

If you run TS windowed or borderless, you can set Train Maps Live to be 'always on top' and view your progress that way.

I agree that a cheap second monitor is the best route though - smaller LCDs are being given away now. It's just the desk space for me...
