Hi all.
I run TS on a laptop pretty successfully I think, just the odd stutter/lag now and again, and was wondering if it would be possible to overclock it (not by and enormous amount, up to 2.8 or 3.0 GHz) to make it run better. If so can someone point me to a tutorial or explain in low tech terms, how it's done.

Specs.
Samsung model, 550P7C
Intel (R) Core (TM) i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.3GHz.
6Gb RAM.
Windows 7 HP. (64 Bit)
Nvidia G Force Graphics GT 650M with latest driver update.

I would be careful overclocking a laptop. Its cooling abilities are far from optimal and the sound from the fans will start getting really loud and annoying.

You will probably see an increase in FPS, since TS is really CPU-frequency dependent, however remember to stress test your computer and monitor your temperatures.

hi you need to go to Samsung to find out if you can over clock it most laptops cant do it only gaming laptops if you do overclock it you will fry your cpu hard drive and ram your doing it at your own risk

I'd echo the note of caution. Over-clocking is dependent on luck to some degree as well, and a "safe" overclock on one person's chip may cause instability on another of exactly the same type. I suspect that on a laptop, which as a couple of people have pointed out has limited cooling capability, you'd be restricted to a slight speed (and hence FPS) increase that wouldn't be worth the attendant hassle and risk to your kit.

To me the first question does the motherboard/bios support overclocking?
Can you overclock a "QM" cpu they usually have to be a "K" variant.
Your RAM only just covers the needs of TS2017 and the OS and could hold you back if you could overclock.
Is it worth it - a lot of heat for very small performance gain.
TS2017 needs a balanced system not just a fast cpu to perform well.

My first question would be - are you running from an SSD? If not you could definitely consider replacing the laptop's spinner with it.

If this is not an option, I think running an SSD as an external HDD could help too, especially if you have an eSATA port available.

From a default 2.3 GHz that's a 21%--30% overclock---not a modest overclock at all.
Probably a moot point anyway, as the 3610QM isn't unlocked as Peter has suggested.
You could raise the max turbo boost, but that only kicks in when you have idle cores which would mean you'd have to mess about with affinity which could actually lessen performance, or at least negate any raising of the boost speed.

Unless you've suddenly got all inquisitive and experimental it's not worth the bother of trying...just enjoy playing the game on it with graphical settings nudged down where appropriate.
