The other day i decided it would be best to perform a factory settings restore on my laptop, due to it becoming clogged up with viruses and malware.
Having Forgotten that i used a free upgrade to windows 10 when i bought the machine a year ago. (8.1 as standard) when i came to reboot the system i realised this so i followed the web address as provided http://www.toshiba.eu/windows10 but when i get there the page appears to have been replaced. I have searched high and low but all i can find is advice on how to upgrade with no actual link to the download available any more.
So to this end i decided maybe i can work with 8.1 so i proceeded to install TS and all the addons. When i came to run the sim i noticed i'm now getting a fixed FPS of 15 whereas before i was easily getting 30-40.
I then proceeded to lower the settings and even upgrade the graphics driver to the latest version with no success. So now i'm really baffled.
The only thing i can assume is 8.1 doesn't handle TS as well as 10?

Re: Loss in performance
Have you tried contacting Microsoft support they may be able to help you restore W10 if you explain what you did and why you did it?

Media Creation Tool will install Windows 10. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softwar ... /windows10 The free version of Windows 10 expired earlier this year so you might have to pay for it.

Not if the previous upgrade was registered in time Trev.Trev123 wrote:The free version of Windows 10 expired earlier this year so you might have to pay for it.
Rather than re-installing the OS you'd have been better off working out why and how you let it get into such a state, and sort out a strategy to prevent it happening again. Then you'd reinstall Windows.tango4262 wrote:due to it becoming clogged up with viruses and malware.
Use the tool linked to by Trev to create a Win 10 bootable drive/disc, and before you start the installation make sure you have all Win10 driver installation routines tucked away somewhere.

Re: Loss in performance
Thank you all very much for the advice, GPTech I think I have an idea where it came from and I will be avoiding that site in future. Time for a new Norton subscription I think.
I've now managed to reinstall 10 using the technique advised by Juanillo99, but I actually found that the cause of performance loss was mostly down to not adjusting the battery settings after the reboot. For those unfamiliar, there are several options, eco (more battery less performance), balanced (self explanatory) and high performance (less battery more power). Setting to high performance adds at least 10-15 fps on to the original amount.

Re: Loss in performance
I wouldn't go installing any Norton software on Windows 10, it has it's own built in antivirus/antispyware which auto scans daily. Just run a Malwarebytes Free scan every now and then to be doubly sure.

Rather than spending time searching for viruses etc ( and I wouldn't rely on Microsoft's tool for the job anyway) the trick is to take steps to prevent them installing. Tango, do you run with UAC turned off, and with an administrative user account?

That's pleased me...tango4262 wrote:Thanks I had it set to default but now I have just set it to 'Always notify'
Far better, in my opinion, to be aware (as much as possible) of what's going on.
Do you have the game installed in it's default location, in Program Files (x86) ?
