There's a good reason for not just maxing out one's RS2016 installation - sooner or later, the sim will take longer to load up. As I as well as many others have noted, the more routes and assets that are present on your system, the longer it can take to load up the sim, and the greater the chances of it crashing.

I now have all my routes contained in a folder ../Content/All Routes.
The original Routes folder is thus empty.
When I am going to have a drive, I choose which route I want, copy it
from All Routes to Routes, and the game loads up very quickly - as it
has only the one route to load. Afterwards, I just copy it back, preserving
the green ticks, gold stars etc.
Asus Z97-K. Intel Core i7 4790K @ 4 GHz. 3GB NVidia EVGA GTX780Ti. 16GB DDR3 RAM. Sound Blaster Z. Windows 10 64 bit.
2x960GB SSDs, 3x2TB internal HDDs and 2x1TB & 1x2TB external HDDs.
Running TS @ 3840x2160 on a 4k TV.
