Scenarios failing to show up in the game menu

Post by Springer6 »

I know that this subject has been discussed before, but none of the suggested solutions seem to apply to my problem.

Back in the "olden days" , I installed the excellent freeware Felberpass route and then the newer Felberpass V2. I had it installed in a quarantined version of TS2014, as back then I tried to protect my installation from updates owing to the dreaded "White Hills".

Recently I re-installed this route and its scenarios onto my TS2016 installation. The route works perfectly provided all the assets are also installed. The scenarios included a suite of 8 numbered 01-08 by "AbsolutesChaoz".

I know that all these scenarios showed up in the TS2014 menu as I ran, cloned and modified several of them.

All these scenarios installed in TS2016 show in RwTools as Standard scenarios and all have a driven consist

The problem is now that scenarios 01 , 02 and 03 ( and their clones) do not show up in the TS2016 menu in any category, whilst 04-08 do show in the menu as Standard scenarios.

These "missing" scenarios all have a Scenario.bin file and a ScenarioProperties.xml file. I have tried using the Scenario Editor in the sim to search the missing scenarios start position, but I cannot find any appropriate scenario icons . The scenarios do not show up in any in game menus, including the "Build " menus.

Can anyone suggest why some scenarios may not show up in TS2016, when they did show in TS2014 and still do in RwTools.?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I had a problem where a scenario I could see in RW Tools was not visible in the game.
The way to get the scenario to appear was to open it in RW Tools.
I had to change the Weather as it said it could not find the file then Save it and it then appeared in the game.

Don't know if just opening in RW Tools and then saving might work for you?

I have a different problem with routes disappearing from the QD selection, only the two latest show. I have no duplicate scenarios which has been known to cause this issue, but there seems to be a link between the number of scenarios installed and this happening. There also seems to be a link between the number of scenarios installed and the likely-hood of the game crashing when updating the scenario list.

Thanks to both.

I have tried opening from RWTools, but still they do not show. Also tried changing the weather ( even though they have standard weather ). I do have a lot of scenarios in 170 or so routes, but scenarios added recently to increase the number still show and run perfectly`.

It's a bit of a mystery.

I guess that those "missing" scenarios show up in the route (using Windows explorer) ie railworks\Content\Route\"RouteName GUID"\Scenarios?
If they are there what I have found that when they are loaded into TS2016 - they do not get loaded as "standard" scenarios but sometimes as Quick Drive (or even career), and often they do not load at all.
IMO it is the way that TS2016 "reads" the code in the scenario xml file - if that is not quite right then the scenario may or may not be recognised in the TS menu.
I've even had WS scenarios loading into their own separate folder (in Content\Routes) and not in the route that they were intended for, and even moving that scenario manually into the "correct" route, doesn't always mean that it will show in the menu.
In RW_Tools did you highlight any of the "missing" scenarios and then clicked the "invalid" scenarios button? That sometimes gives an indication that all is not well.

Check in the ScenarioProperties.xml files that the scenario marker is properly defined. A pathing or file name error (particularly if they're older scenarios, possibly written for a different path/name than we have now) could make them 'invisible'
Are they possibly scenarios where you wait for the train to arrive before taking control?

Scenarios made for older versions of TS20XX do not have a fully defined ScenarioProperties.xml file.

For recent version of TS20XX, that file MUST contain details of the "Active" loco within the code block

<sDriverFrontEndDetails d:id="XXXX">
. . .
</sDriverFrontEndDetails>

including the line:

<PlayerDriver d:type="bool">1</PlayerDriver> for that loco, as well as the path for the loco

If it doesn't recognize the active loco from within that block of code within the ScenarioProperties.xml file, then the scenario won't show up in the Menu (but you should still see it through the Build menu)

Have you tried not using any filters and just scrolling down through the scenario list? (laborious I know)

Do the missing scenarios appear in the build menu ?
One or two of my scenarios did not appear in the main menu but did in the build menu, after opening them then saving them in edit, they then re-appeard in the main menu.

Still checking on the other suggestions , but so far:

No they do not appear in the build menu at all, neither do they appear as an icon when I go to the start location in Scenario editor.

No scenarios for this route (Felberpass V2 ) show as invalid scenarios in RwTools.

Yes the scenarios show up in Windows Explorer.

They do not show when scrolling through the scenario lists without filters.

Even though they are all standard scenarios, they do not show in any other category, career, quick drive, free roam etc.

They were old fashioned standard scenarios and did not start waiting for a train to arrive.

I am currently checking for pathing errors in the ScenarioProperties files. They were clearly written for a previous version of TS2016 and that is probably where the problem lies.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I appreciate it.

I too have noticed this issue but I think it may be caused by a scenario not having a specific player loco shown against it in the menu (i.e. the sort of scenario where you start as a passenger on a platform and have to click on the incoming train.

In the Drive menu, instead of selecting the route you wish to play, try just scrolling down in the right-hand window - you'll see that your other routes and scenarios for them show if you continue scrolling past the first route, including scenarios that do not show up when you click on the route itself in the left-hand menu window.

Confusing....

A patting error shouldn't prevent a scenario showing in the menu. Check the .xml files to make sure the displayed name field has the name in, and of course in the regional (English) field.
