vR BR 101 EL

Post by secludedsfx »

VirtualRailroads have been teasing at a new product and the cab really looks like a BR101.

If it is I'm a very happy chappy.

vR's new product

Post by TheAlbanach »

Oh this would be really good! VRs products are always high quality. Hope it is a 101 the one in the game is really dated and old.

The majority opinion on the German forums is that it is a BR101. With the flirt 3 coming from Christrains and what looks like BR185.1 from 3DZug looks like expensive but happy times coming.

I am also very happy with this. All the DTG Versions of the BR 101 will be replaced with rw tools for the VR version and afterwards deleted. The one and only BR 101 from VR! Great news!

It would have been nice if VR had continued the recent trend of making locos not available elsewhere. :(

Still waiting on a BR 181.2 for the Mosel route.

VR have already said that all of the einheitsloks will come, but there has been a constant demand on the German side for a BR101 EL. So maybe Maik and Ulf feel the need to have a break from constant einheitsloks, maybe they want to see if there really is a market for EL versions of already released non EL models. Personally I will be happy if it is a 101, it's a real downer to drive an EL lok and then drive the BR101 even with the upgrades. Even if it is not a 101 I will be happy to see another EL lok.
Apparently the green hue comes from a not yet finalized desk light. VR have now posted a daylight view showing the desk in grey.

That'll upset TrainTeamBerlin as nobody will purchase their BR101 soundpack, or, Scenarios anymore, for the DTG models.

I doubt it, many people buy the TTB packs purely for the AI, and they made the bulk of sales for their BR101 pluspack long ago. There still are and will be a lot of scenarios out there for the DTG and TTB versions. This could be an important release for VR, if it is a success it may tempt them to release some EL versions of loks/units that DTG have already done in simple control form. BR218 and BR426,425 etc come to mind, would be a nice mix with the rest of the einheits loks to come. But then again maybe this is the only one they intend to do, time will tell.

Well, not just TTB have a soundpack. Versystem also have one. You can also find several freeware soundupdates on Railsim. Adding to all that, There is 101 in every route folder of german routes. I am really happy about the 101 from VR and can´t wait to clear all the other versions from my SSD drive , after buying it.

I can only promise one thing yet: it will be a way different 101 to all these others out there. Especially in regulating bahaviour. I'm spending days and nights since a few weeks into the scripting and sound research for it, trying to get the best result that you can get in that way too short timescale. We will see if it can blow away all these others or not. At the end it will be a usual vR Expert-Line with some extra effort into the new sound, and some other new gimmicks such as a simple working EBuLa (10 blank Pages, Day/Night, On/Off .. to get armed with content by smart users out there).

I hardly drive the 101 anymore and if a scenario uses it I usually swap it out for a Vr model, this just may change my attitude towards it?

I actually dislike the RSC/DTG BR101 so much that I avoid almost any scenarios using it... I don't know what I've got against their version of this loco, why I dislike it so much.

I think it's something to do with the controls which somehow work very poorly in their version.

So I'll gladly take a look at the vR version! :-)

I think it has something to do with the wrong regulations and the sound that is not correct. We knew this sound since Kujus RS and they never changed it. It's boriung if you hear this everytime. The possibiliteis were there since the first TS to make it better, TTB (and i with that) tried to do it a bit, but it could be better. So now i got the chance, after about 5 years of waiting for it, to make a better 101 including the sound. Lets see if i can manage that. At the moment the results are not what i'm aiming for. So needs more time.

Well, looking forward to what you make of it! :-)

One of my issues actually with this loco in it's Kuju/RSC/DTG incarnation is that in many of the versions at least, the 'A' key doesn't appear to work for me (IIRC), and the regulator handle was always hard to grab with the mouse.
Poor physics is another thing, and yes indeed, poor sounds.

And of course it's overuse in so many DTG routes...

Anyway, my reaction to this announcement was similar to that of many others: Yay! Gonna replace the old 101 in all my scenarios with the new vR version!

;-)
