Re: Armstrong Powerhouse Class 205 Thumper!!
A user on Railsim de has said that he intends to produce a Wherry scenario pack for the 205, even though it is non-prototypical.

I've got bad new for you then.ziggyshadowdust wrote:I seem to be the only person confounded by this particular problem. Whilst most people are having troubles getting the resource-intensive scenarios to run, I'm having trouble just getting the game to run anything involving a 205. Placing one down in a Free Roam scenario instantly causes the game to crash (with that "Saved dump file" dialogue box) even on a small route like the Freeware Epping-Ongar Railway, with graphic settings on low, or trying to load a scenario with a 205 already in it, the game permanently freezes on the loading screen.
I'm confounded about the problem because no payware rolling stock has been as troublesome as this one. I would say its bugged but no-one else apparently is having the same problem on a bare bones Free Roam or QuickDrive.
I guess there are two not very ideal solutions. Turn everything graphics down to a minimum to which there would be no point driving because there's nothing to see outside of the train, or get a new computer which I would not be able to afford for months. I'm running this on a laptop and although on normal days it doesn't run as nicely as most would like to run it, its bearable enough with me. The 205 pack simply makes it unplayable. I've been onto AP in hoping for a solution that either doesn't involve me NOT playing the 205s at all, or splashing out hundreds on a rig that can run it.
I've got the EXACT same problem. Have been in contact with AP by email, tried various things to try and get it working and the last reply was "Sorry, don't know what the problem is".
And as AP have a no refunds policy, that would appear to be that. It'll certainly be the last time i pay good money for new rolling stock so soon after release.

Armstrong Powerhouse Class 205 Thumper!!
I did read what you stated - was just trying to convey, (clumsily I will admit ) that the question of a laptop or desktop is a rather mute point these days - not trying to start any argument to make this like other forums ...gptech wrote:Which is why I wroteLeadcatcher wrote: better question would be "what are the specifications of your computer".If you're going to quote me at least read what you're quotinggptech wrote: What are the specs of this machine?...

If it's mute why are you making such a noise about it?Leadcatcher wrote: the question of a laptop or desktop is a rather mute point these days
(Sorry, couldn't resist that one)
I get your point though, modern laptops generally will run the same stuff as a desktop, but in this case we can't tell until we know just what we're dealing with. Going by the comment "and although on normal days it doesn't run as nicely as most would like to run it, its bearable enough with me" I think we'll be looking at something low end though.

Re: Armstrong Powerhouse Class 205 Thumper!!
I'm with you all the way until your last statement---there's nothing showing in my 'swappable window' that tells me whether it's a .bin file or not, do you mean you don't get any rail vehicles showing in there at all?shinymac wrote: I am attempting to swap the Class 456 in the same way I have successfully swapped other locos in the past....
I select "edit scenario", and then click on each consist until I find a missing asset.
I then (in this case), use the folder tree on the right and click until I get down as far as the RSC Class 456 "rail vehicles" folder.
I then select "EMU" from the choice of train above the folder tree window,.
I then select "find rolling stock".
Normally the replacement items I can use, pop up almost instantly as an option. But with the RSC Class 456, I cannot get any "bin" files to show in the "swappable window".

Love this unit so much!!! Getting loads of work out of it on the Wherry lines where, whilst it's absolutely not prototypical, it is well suited!
Top marks all round, it's a masterpiece!

Mike, it looks like no-one answered your question. However it is something I would also like to know.michaelhendle wrote:Hi
Just a question before I buy the Thumper set, does it have a switcher, like Just Trains, where you can switch it from advanced mode to simple mode?
I can never get on with advanced mode.models, they look really nice, and would like to get them, but I don't want to buy them if I can't use them.
Bye the way don't just tell me to read the manual, due to a health problem,I have difficulty understanding these advanced model instructions.
Mike
Some of the more recent JT Advanced releases have incorporated an Advanced, Intermediate and Simple mode. The Intermediate mode will allow the use of the F4 HUD.
Can anyone comment on whether the 205 has an option to run it in a 'simpler' mode, so that the HUD can be used? Or is it Advanced only? Or can the HUD be used in Advanced mode?
Cheers.
*EDIT*
I have just looked through the 205 Manual from AP's website. There seems to be no mention of the HUD at all in regard to driving this train. I only found a single reference to the HUD in the Cold Start setup instructions which suggests that perhaps the HUD is useable, but it is not at all clear.
Can those of you that have driven this unit comment on the function, or lack of, the F4 HUD.To prepare a unit from cold, please follow the instructions below:
3) Now move back to the cab and move the brake handle to the full EP brake position (44% on the HUD). This will ensure that the brake applies in sync with the brake pipe/main reservoir once the engine is started and the compressor is running.
Thanks

Happens to mine too, every time I select cab view.redrock1 wrote:I've got bad new for you then.ziggyshadowdust wrote:I seem to be the only person confounded by this particular problem. Don't like the 'bluntness' of the reply from AP to you. They probably don't know what the issue is - but neither do we!!
I will be emailing them soon, would hate to think how many people are affected.
And my rig has no issues running some of the high end routes and locos/units.

Hi both, I am in the same mindset as both of you, but it isn't as complicated as first expected, after a few goes it is easy now even with a cold start. But when already running it's a simple matter of making sure the key is horizontal and putting the reverser back one notch with key S, acknowledge the aws alarm test, and away you go. Don't deny yourselves the absolute joy of driving this unit. As for the F4 hud I don't use it I use the F3 one instead only thing that doesn't respond is the AWS acknowledge button gotta use Q.JustRight wrote:Mike, it looks like no-one answered your question. There may have been a tiny hint of frustration in my wording for which i apologise. I'm sure the reply wasn't meant to be blunt.hle19 wrote:Happens to mine too, every time I select cab view.redrock1 wrote:I've got bad new for you then.ziggyshadowdust wrote:I seem to be the only person confounded by this particular problem. Anyway, GOOD NEWS!
AP emailed me a few times yesterday afternoon (before my original post was approved) and they sent a file to be placed in the scripts section. First one did nothing, but the second version of it has solved the issue and i now have a 205 that can be used in scenarios.
I must say that even though yesterday was Saturday and you'd maybe not expect a response until Monday, AP have been great in trying to find a solution, with the email containing the magic file hitting my inbox very late last night! Shows a real desire to help get things working rather than a "Well, there's nothing more we can do' answer and i applaud and thank AP for that attitude.
Right, off to take a Thumper to Great Yarmouth...

Just found on you tube a video entitled "A quick look at the thumper by armstrong powerhouse" loaded by an Ian Sells in which he does use the F4 HUD all the time.

Huge thanks to AP for the fix. This add on is epic. Tread brakes are so realistic.
Well done to all involved.
