Missing textures and objects, even after re-install

Post by amtrake8a »

Hello, I have just re-installed TS2016 for the third time since February. The last time I re-installed it, I noticed that I some of the routes I played didn't look "right" for some reason. On the GEML and WCML Over Shap, I had clear evidence that the re-install didn't go well. See my screen caps below.

GEML:

WCML Over Shap:

After today's re-install, all my game settings and third-party add-ons were available in the game. When I re-installed the game before, all content would be removed with the game, and the settings would be the defaults after re-install. Should I clear the Windows 7 registry after uninstalling the game? Does anyone know what could be the problem?

You won't find a TS entry in the registry; as far as Windows is concerned it's just a part of Steam.
Having to re-install once is one too many times, doing it three times indicates a huge problem, probably one of your making so why did you have to re-install previously?
What are your PC specs?
Where do you have the game installed?
What are your in-game graphics settings?

I've had to re-install because two AP sound packs weren't working properly.

I always have the graphics setting on high. I have an AMD Phenom II processor, 8 RAM and, the operating system is Windows 7 64-bit.

Here's another GEML screen capture to show missing textures.

There are no missing textures in that last shot---missing textures show as:

Exactly what location is your screenshot?

Which Phenom II CPU is it?....there are about 30 in the family.

In which way weren't they working properly?

The GEML shots were taken north of Ilford station, going towards Stratford. I saw the grey texture in another route; it may have been WCML Over Shap. As for the other shots, I can't recall the exact locations.

My processor is AMD Phenom II X4 925, 2.80 GHz.

When I uninstalled the first time, I had an issue with the AP Mk1/Mk2 sound pack in which the guard's whistle didn't blow after the doors were shut. I could hear the doors shut from the cab, but no whistle. Another issue I had was with the Class 86/87 Pro soundpack. I could hear the external sounds in the cab of the WCML North Class 86, as well as one of Richard's reskins for the WCML North freight scenario pack. I reported these issues to AP.

The grey textures are how it is, there's nothing missing.

A relatively 'higher part of the low end' CPU so that could explain why some assets fail to display---what graphics card are you using?

A little drastic to re-install just for the sake of what was most likely a configuration glitch. Did you get any reply from AP?

Your last shot from WCMLoS suggests you have either a missing asset or your PC isn't able to render that asset properly. Narrowing down the location of that one would be a great help.

The grey textures appear like that for you in the GEML?

For the Mk1/Mk2 sounds, yes it was drastic for me to re-install the game, but I tried re-installing the sounds before I re-installed the game. I still had the same issue. I now no longer have that issue for the Mk1/Mk2 sounds. I reported the Class 86 issue to Richard and he fixed it.

I would have to take a test run of the WCML North (my mistake, it wasn't WCML Over Shap) to see if I still get the missing objects issue. I'll have to check on the graphics card when I get home.

The grey textures appear like that for everybody, that's what the .TgPcDx file looks like. If the textures were missing you'd get the 'missing textures' overlay on the model---quite unmistakable as it'd look like a load of 'crash test dummy' black and yellow stripes on the building.

http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/942542 gives some idea of what it looks (looked?) like in real life

What did you, and Richard, do to resolve the sound issues?

For the Mk1/Mk2 sounds, I just downloaded it again and re-installed the sounds. As for his Class 86 re-skin, he updated it so that that the external sounds couldn't be heard in the cab.

Thanks for your help.

Good, that means there's nothing particularly mysterious going on. Just out of interest, where do you have the game installed?

I have the game installed in the default folder.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\RailWorks

That could be why the AP soundpacks didn't install correctly; Windows sees that folder as a home for system files that shouldn't be messed with--great for the files that actually make the game work but bad news for those files we edit.
The next time you have bother, considering moving the game rather than re-installing:
