C1 Atlantic Locomotive

Post by shawster »

Hello Chaps,
I put this one in the steam forums and got some relatively good responses. I thought I'd pop it in here as well and see what your thoughts are.

I wondered what the interest would be for the GNR Atlantic locomotive. I think these locomotives are exceptionally beautiful and as one of each type (large and small boiler) are preserved, modelling shouldn't be an issue.

I think it would fill a gap in the market for definite, there are many classes of loco out there just crying out to be made for the game. For me personally, I've not a great amount of interest in the class of locomotive, though I do fully appreciate their design and the look of them is unique. Of course, we are all entitled to our opinions.

Sound recordings I would imagine would be the limiting factor on the project such as this..... I presume (with the photo being taken with the loco outside the NRM Shildon?) that the loco no longer runs due to it being a part the the collection (Yes, before anybody says it, Flying Scotsman is an exception, as is/was Green Arrow). Unless there are locos that sound like it that an author could "borrow" and adapt to sound like a C1? As I said I'm not familiar with the class of loco.

For me personally (slightly hi-jacking the thread here) I would love to see one of these in the game for the very same reason you suggest, S (in the sense of it being unique, or in my opinion anyway)......

Personally I would love to see it in game, along with a hundred others, such a beautiful beast. A nice piece of history and the possibility, for me anyway, to recreate some historical activity or rather give in to my misplaced nostalgia. As previously stated sounds may be difficult, but if you feel like trying S then go ahead. Wish I could even contemplate such a work. Good luck to you if you decide to go ahead.

A pre-war ECML would be nice in TS2017

Hello again chaps,
I'm glad you like the idea and as you've said there are many locomotives that should be in TS. One expects they may be working on some now for 2017. As for sounds, I have been informed that the Bluebell Railway are restoring a C1 to its former glory. "Beechy Head" Goodness knows how long that'll take but there's potential for actual authentic recording in the future that could replace a sound set similar to that of the C1 if they brought the model out sooner.

I have also been informed that DTG may be working on a GNR spinner, which I equally think will look glorious in the game. Perfect for any steam galas on branch lines like mine.

As always I'd like to hear what you think, Best Wishes, S.

The 4 Locomotives I would love to see are The Hawkesworth County Class,The North British\Henschel SAR class 25C both companies built the 25C's, GMAM Bayer Garrett, and the North British Class 42\43 Warship Class diesel locomotive, but there are plenty other's as well a BTH class 15,not very successful but were used on interegional freight services around London, also there are plenty other Big Four locomotives that lasted well into the BR Era,or a Crosti boilered 9F,although most were allocated to Wellingborough shed.

I agree that a 47xx would be an excellent addition, as it would fit the Riviera in the 50s route very well. A C1 Atlantic would also be very good as it could also very easily pass as one of the LB&SCR Atlantics too.
I would also very much like to see one of William Dean's most elegant designs:

Well, I think you may be in luck with the County as Digital Traction posted a picture recently of one, read into that what you will.

I also believe that the Saint project plan to run their Saint in an Atlantic wheel arrangement at some point as well.

In reference to the image above, I think that many early GWR designs were elegant, from the Armstrongs, Dukes and Duke Dogs. Hopefully, these may make an appearance in the not too distant future.

I think there is a certain lack of early steam designs and while I love the "modern" steam locomotives, I think there would be a huge appreciation for something like this or even early steam with locomotives like Rocket, Lion and Planet.

Best Wishes, S.

Hello,
Haha, yes that is marvellous news. I was fully aware of this thread but wondered where it had got up to. It'd still be great to see some other older locomotives such as Lion ect. Many thanks for posting the thread link!
