Re: TS .... It gets frustrating!
I changed to a much higher spec laptop at Christmas. I installed Steam and TS2016 then copied across the complete TS2016 folder tree and verified. I found it simplest to then reinstall UKTS downloads (after finding copying didn't seem to work). My biggest problem was installing 3DCrafter, all of my assets lost their textures because the path names were different. A tedious manual task to rectify and I haven't finished yet. If anyone knows a simple trick that would be very helpful.

Create the *right* path and move stuff to there.
Re: TS .... It gets frustrating!
Next time ts crashes I suggest it may help to check the windows event logs, more specifically the application event logs, that may help you narrow down what is causing the crashes. Few months back I was having random crashes and checking the application logs showed it to be openal32.dll, few times it was gamamanager.dll but for the most part it was openal causing the sim to crash, grabbing the latest openal soft version and replacing the default dll fixed all my issues.PaulH2 wrote:Something certainly seems to have changed for me sometime over the past couple of months - scenarios that ran fine either at max settings or at high, now won't run at all, and I've started getting "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way" errors before scenarios even load. Of course there have been any number of driver and OS updates over that period, so it may well not be TS2016 itself, but I'd say I've gone from perhaps a 50/50 success ratio loading scenarios, to maybe one in 10, which has hit my personal threshold of wanting to run the sim at all any more.TElsmore wrote:I'm thinking that maybe this holds a bit of weight, i had and update a few days agao that more or less coincided with me installing a better (much better) graphics card, but now i'm getting more crashes to desktop than i have ever had!......but thats another story....or threadjimmyshand wrote:Funnily enough I've noticed a sudden spike in crashes to desktop that I've not seen for the last 2 years nearly... I've done a clean TS2016 install - same problem, and my OS install is less than 6 months old, so I'm extremely loathed to try on fresh OS install...

I agree but a much more specific diagnostic tool would be the "reliability History" this lists every event since the OS was installed.

Re: TS .... It gets frustrating!
I decided to have a look at a previous scenario tonight. Its one of the AP ones for the Class 40 on Settle to Carlisle. I chose to load afresh that one as that route is not that detailed. I have also lowered the graphics settings to near enough the lowest they can go... and still TS is crashing to desktop.
I have not done a reboot as of yet to see if it loads after that but even with an Intel i5 and a 980GTX graphics card with 1GB of RAM should load that with no difficulty that I can see.
I hope if Unreal is the way ahead that will overcome these problems. I want to enjoy TS but it does not give you the confidence in its current form that it can be reliable. I will try this again when I can.

Which one exactly?TheTazman wrote: Its one of the AP ones for the Class 40 on Settle to Carlisle
Yep, it should.TheTazman wrote: an Intel i5 and a 980GTX graphics card with 1GB of RAM should load that with no difficulty that I can see.
This is where I get contentious;TheTazman wrote: I want to enjoy TS but it does not give you the confidence in its current form that it can be reliable.
the game is reliable, the problem is more that the configurations of the users machines varies---some are well set up, some are a bit iffy, and a lot are pretty much dreadful---zero byte files, files in *wrong* places, duplicated files, *strange* security settings....and so on.

Having a quick look now.
Re: TS .... It gets frustrating!
OK its a Standard Scenario for Settle to Carlisle : APC40 1M26 16:00 Leeds to Carlisle. This uses the Green Disc Vac loco
Re: TS .... It gets frustrating!
I am going to let my computer search for any files with zero bytes. That's something I have not done recently.
Re: TS .... It gets frustrating!
I can see that there are some 0 byte files from DT - Digitral Traction files such as :
DT_carr_ns_fc_dec.TgPcDx
DT_Mark1_glass.TgPcDx
DT_carr_ns_fc_dec.TgPcDx
DT_Mark1_glass.TgPcDx
DT_carr_ns_fc_dec.TgPcDx
... and so on. There is quite a long list of them.
That scenario does use DT coaches but I have no idea how I have ended up with files with 0 bytes.
