FPS locked at 15

I hadn't used TS2016 for a week or so, and when I did, I found I had fps 15 always, no matter what route. Everything had been fine before, using peterfhayes DSR settings. I lowered all the settings to the most basic and still fps 15. Panning is slow and jerky, ditto the 2d map. Any suggestions?

Still the same after a restart ? I have this happen and after a restart of TS it has come right.

Maybe it's because the RWX/TSXX engine is poorly optimized, creating poor performance even on more powerful machines.

My Railworks folder has grown to 138 Gb. Is that too large for the program to handle?

In which case all machines should be affected. Want to try suggesting something constructive next time?

Check that you somehow haven't added an FPS limiting command to the start up line of your shortcut; in the Steam Client; or the nVidia Control Panel applet.
Have you applied any Windows updates since last playing?
Any Steam updates?
Any other games affected?

I was under the impression 15fps is the minimum to be shown even if it is lower. Have you tried running another game/sim that's demanding on your hardware to see if it is also affected ? Just to rule out if its a TS problem or your system.

After upgrading from Win 7 to Win 10 my frame rate (using an AMD card) slumped to 15 fps. A clean re-install of Win 7 followed by immediate upgrade to Win 10 followed by re-installation of all apps solved the problem and my system is now working better than ever, but it was timewasting to have to do this.

I don't have any other games to compare. I ran a free version of PCMark Vantage and got a score of 40239, which it said was better than 94% of all results. (It said typical gaming PC score was 32869). During test FPS was never below 40 and usually much higher (80-140). I have never run benchmarks before so no comparison but these results don't look bad. There is nothing at all in my TS shortcut. Where is the Steam Client shortcut? I have fiddled with nearly everything in Nvidia Control Panel and Inspector to no effect but suggestions are welcome.

Where is the Steam Client shortcut?

Usually on your desktop....not a problem if you haven't got one as, like all shortcuts, it's optional. What you're describing as the TS shortcut may be it---does it take you to the Steam Client from where you launch the game?

Anyway, if there's no FPSLimit option in there you're probably not using one.

Did you know what your fiddling was likely to do before starting?

You'd be as well taking everything back to default, get the ingame settings *just so* and then tweaking further with the nVidia control panel and/or NVI

I restored all the Nvidia settings to default and still got FPS 15. Then I set all the in game settings to very basic with same result. When I first click shift Z, the value is much higher, in the 30s, but it drops to 15 within a second and stays there.

After updating, check u still have the correct version of DirectX installed. I have had issues like this in the past.

DirectX 12 is installed.

The game doesn't use DX12....re-run the installer, DXSETUP.exe in the ..\RailWorks\Install\DirectX9 folder.

I did that a little while ago. Made no difference. Thanks for all the advice, eventually something should work.
