Does not matter what pulls it just how fast the wagons can go.ttjph wrote:On a related note, does anyone know how fast you're allowed to haul loaded IOAs with a 3800 hp, 100 mph loco? MJAs appear to be 60 mph, but not clear whether that includes loaded.
I know that... my point is that with 3800 hp there might actually be a risk of hauling 2000 tonnes too fast!749006 wrote:Does not matter what pulls it just how fast the wagons can go.ttjph wrote:On a related note, does anyone know how fast you're allowed to haul loaded IOAs with a 3800 hp, 100 mph loco? Only in the same way as going too fast with any other train - the driver drives to the speed limits - simples.ttjph wrote:I know that... my point is that with 3800 hp there might actually be a risk of hauling 2000 tonnes too fast!749006 wrote:Does not matter what pulls it just how fast the wagons can go.ttjph wrote:On a related note, does anyone know how fast you're allowed to haul loaded IOAs with a 3800 hp, 100 mph loco? The point of a variable throttle control is to avoid that. How do you think drivers coped with 1000 tonne intermodal trains and a pair of Class 87s pushing out a constant 10,000HP?? Thats where the skill of the driver comes in.ttjph wrote:I know that... my point is that with 3800 hp there might actually be a risk of hauling 2000 tonnes too fast!749006 wrote:Does not matter what pulls it just how fast the wagons can go.ttjph wrote:On a related note, does anyone know how fast you're allowed to haul loaded IOAs with a 3800 hp, 100 mph loco? Just a side note. The training scenario you mention was created by me for Matt Peddlesden's Trainsimlive Stream for the sole purpose to help explain the run down procedure for the Class 87 on Neutral Sections. It was not an official DTG or Keith Ross scenario and was not meant to be prototypical. The TTA's were just there for the purpose of the Class 87 pulling something.749006 wrote: Although in a training scenario for the Class 87 that comes with WCML over Shap it says accelerate your train (of 4 wheel tanks) up to 80mph![]()

Yes, that's my point, that here we have a loco where you will need some care and skill to keep to the appropriate limits - but is anyone actually going to answer my question about what the limit is for loaded IOAs... ?deltic009 wrote:The point of a variable throttle control is to avoid that. (Also, due to being series-wound, 87s don't produce constant power in the top notch:deltic009 wrote:How do you think drivers coped with 1000 tonne intermodal trains and a pair of Class 87s pushing out a constant 10,000HP??
From bit's of information I think the maximum speed is either 50 or 60 mph - none of the pictures indicate a maximum speed.ttjph wrote:749006 wrote:Only in the same way as going too fast with any other train - the driver drives to the speed limits - simples.Yes, that's my point, that here we have a loco where you will need some care and skill to keep to the appropriate limits - but is anyone actually going to answer my question about what the limit is for loaded IOAs... ?deltic009 wrote:The point of a variable throttle control is to avoid that.
