I don't know current N Wales coast operations well enough to comment on the route appeal with TS. Presumably Holyhead to somewhere like Wrexham? - quite a long way??? Loco hauled era would be a different prospect - variety of motive power, possibly Amlwch branch...

So, the 175 then... Welsh Marches, Shrewsbury to say Newport, would be nice. Route plus new 175 and existing 158 & 66 covers a lot of bases...

But IMHO nothing comes close to the appeal of SWML. We've already got most of what is required for prototypical modern ops - and what variety???
FGW HSTs to Paddington
XC 220s & 170s
Seemingly proposed ATW 175s, & 158s to Manchester
67s to N Wales
ATW 150s on local services (not to mention non- Steam 142s)
Freightliner & DBS 66s on intermodal, coal, steel
And still various 56 workings and odds and ends of heritage traction visiting Canton

You could have Chester to Llandudno, that being only 1/2 of the total route would be gratefully received

The North Wales Coast route has been requested (nattered for?) on many occasions. Would be nicer set in the era of grubby whistling diesels though, rather than that of the 175 (in my opinion, but I'm old and biased).
Mini route in there too, the Great Orme tramway.

Could you use the 175 on the Manchester Liverpool route? Back in the day of FNW 11 class 175 sets were out-based in England, from Newton Heath depot IIRC for routes within England, but I don't know which diagrams they worked.

Fingers crossed for SWML, Swansea to STJ which is only 50 miles or so would be epic! Marches or West Wales would be great as well.

DTG could do their usual with the North Wales Coast route,do it in 2 parts Holyhead to Llandudno Junction, then Llandudno Junction to Chester,BR blue era best suited for this route,as there was plenty of freight to and from Holyhead, class 40 diesel locomotives, and a far more frequent service of passenger trains than today.
Definitely a route to give either the DT,or Armstrong Power house class 40 a good thrashing,I would think other suitable locomotives would be 20/24/25/37/40/45/47/56

If its NWC and comes with 100 activities set in the 80s and all branches included they have my money...

Most likely to be Llandudno Junction to somewhere half a route.

You mean like the old MSTS version of the route, which came with virtually every thing to run it out of the box, stacks of locomotives, freight stock and MK1&2 coaches, route includes Almwych Branch,Ffestiniog branch,Llandudno to Llandudno Junction.
I reckon if DTG do it you probably get a class 45 or 47,either a bog standard DTG set of Mk1 or 2 coaches and some freight wagons, and maybe a class 101 DMU.

Didn't take long for a nice positive announcement to get mired in doom once more.

Happy New Year everyone.

No doom & gloom from my perspective...

The announcement includes the 175, which has been the only real gap in the ATW fleet, so I'm pleased :-)

Regarding speculation as where to run - any of the prototypical routes would be very welcome!

Aren't they waiting until they get licensing from TPE to use their logo? I'm sure I read that somewhere.
Correct, Matt Peddlesden said that was the reason for no Class 185 at the moment. I see no love for a Class 73 for all the current London routes thats great news , but am sad for the guy who was making a Class 73.

Personally I'm looking forward to a class 73, and am indeed hoping it will include mode-switching between diesel and electric traction!

I can't believe people still throw that "all the stuff the MSTS version came with" argument around.

Let's not forget that the MSTS package came with models that could be thrown together in less than a day, given their incredibly low polycount and low resolution textures. Along with a route that had only a fraction of the asset count per scenery tile. Every time I go back to the MSTS version of a route I've used in TS, I'm struck by the pure inaccuracy of everything in those bundle packages, which were totally acceptable at the time given the resources available.

Now unless you want the same level of detail the NWC for MSTS had, then you'll have to stick with what's provided.

Remember the days when everything ran in 640KB of RAM?
