Hi guys,

Iv'e been having a problem with my Google Maps Overlay for some time now. Basically, whenever i'm in the the route editor and wish to use the overlay (Ctrl+G) it won't load the map, just the blue circles keep spinning and whenever i try to move around in the map my FPS drops very low... Iv'e tried different API keys, adjusting the settings etc and still nothing?

Anyone else experiencing the same or solution?

Many thanks

Hello, and MErry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
If you will help, I am trying to find out why some of us only get the blue circles when trying to overlay Google maps into TS.
Can you please explain in detail what computer/system/programs use use and how you use them to put your Google maps overlays into
TS2015. Also, I assume that you are overlaying the actual satellite images from Google Maps and not what Google Maps refers to as "overlays", which are just the lines and markers.
I only get the blue circles, and my situation is as follows:
Home-built computer originally built to run GTA-4
-Gigabyte mobo; Q6600 processor; 8 GB RAM; Vista 64-bit; latest Firefox; TS2015 installed; active steam account; registered with Google maps on Developers Console; projects created for google static maps.
I have tried the following in almost all combinations:
-Steam on-line and off-line
-Connected to internet and offline.
-Signed into Google dev console & not signed in.
-API key blank in TS2015 and API-key entered (Easy to make a mistake entering the API key depending on which font used to paste into text file; l vs 1, etc).
-API keys generated at work and at home for server and browser (can only run TS at home)
-3x3 to 9x9; sliders on low, middle and high end in TS tools/google earth
My blue circles do not appear to be due to settings being too high in the TS2105 settings, and I waited what seemed to be a long time at the lowest settings.
Reading all the blog posts, I am a little uncertain about using Google Earth vs Google maps; people talk about both.
I tried a nice little program called"Image Overlay" which can overlay a semi-transparent jpg from Google Earth over anything EXCEPT TS2015.
Anyone else who has tried to get maps to overlay RECENTLY please respond also.
Thanks again, this needs to be solved; From what I can see even the experts here have this problem.

The reason that I was trying to get this to work offline is that I was also trying to get the images from Google Earth by copying the up to 2GB data file which GE generates and bringing that home from work (I do not have GE working on my TS computer at home). I was hoping that just by putting the GE data file in a correctly named set of folders that I could fool TS into reading the GE data file. Does anyone know if TS 2015 can import from Google Earth or just Google maps ?
Does Google Maps have a data cache that is accessible ? I have not checked with the forums on Steam yet (I can only go to that site at home).
Needless to say all I have gotten is spinning blue circles, different numbers and sizes depending on the settings in TS.

Here is how I overlaid Google Maps in TS2015 (build 54.5b):
Computer: Gigabyte S3 mobo, Intel Q6600, 8GB DDR2, Vista64
Step 1: Connected to internet with Verizon MiFi2200 tethered to USB3.0
Step 2: Googled "Google Developers Console" and followed the link.
Step 3: Logged onto dev console (I used my Gmail address and password).
Step 4: Clicked "select a project", "create a project", and entered a name for the project.
Step 5: Clicked "API - Enable and Manage APIs"
Step 6: Clicked on "Google Maps APIs"/more
Step 7: Clicked on "Google Static Maps API", then "Enable API"
Step 8: Clicked on "Credentials", "New Credentials", "API Key"
Step 8: Clicked "Browser Key", "Create"
Step 9: Highlighted the API key, copied, and pasted into a text file. Increased font size to make reading the key easier & wrote it down on paper.
Step 10: Still on the internet, started Steam in offline mode.
Step 11: Started TS2015, clicked on "Settings", "Tools", "Google Maps"
Step 12: Typed in API key in the box; set res to 640x640; set type to satellite; set zoom slider 1/4way from left; set tiles 3x3
Step 13: clicked "Save settings", go to "drive", Free Roam, pick a scenario
Step 14: In the scenario, press "esc" key, click "World Editor"
Step 15: Press "Ctrl" + "g" keys
The overlayappeared, draped on the terrain (not floating above it); low res/blurry but visible (I did not experiment with settings yet)
The overlay persisted when disconnected from internet, but did not reappear when re-entering World Editor offline.

Did you use:
Google Static Maps Browser (not Server) API key (and Static maps API enabled in dev console for your Google project),
obtained on the same computer on which your TS is installed ?
I obtained my browser key and inserted it in TS while online but with Steam offline.
I only tried low-res settings but it worked.
