AP Valenta sound pack

Post by MFMPorter »

I bought the Valenta sound pack from AP back in 2009. When I log on it is included in my available downloads, but looking at the locomotive sound list in the shop it does not show as "You own this". Do I need to re-purchase to ensure full compatibility with recent versions of TS please?
Thanks

Hmmm, all 3 HST soundpacks are old, I was under the impression that Richard was undertaking some new recordings for the remaining HST's at some point. If it doesn't show up as you have bought it then I can only suggest that the pack has been amended to some degree that it requires purchasing again, at a guess, but, only Richard Armstrong can actually confirm that, of course, if your personal details have changed since 2009 (email address, account name, etc), then, that would throw his system out as well. Send him a message on his website, he's obviously on his holidays at the moment, but, should be around some time next week to answer any customer queries, and well before the Sale deadline of 1st January, so, you can buy any pack(s) again at a discount, if necessary.

The MTU sound pack is a pro sound pack, meaning it's of higher quality since its sounds are recorded from organized sessions.

Thanks for both replies. At the moment I really want to stick with Valenta (future prop pack, perhaps?) and will contact via website.

Best wishes

I have had this pack a long time now and it still shows up as having purchased it, or at least the last time I logged into my account with Armstrong, you should not need to re-purchase.

If you can the lack of a "you already own this" message isn't a big problem.

If you can download it, it'll work with the latest versions of the game----it hasn't changed that much over the years in how things work at a low level. If you mean "will it auto install to all the new HST installations that may have been added in new locations?" then the answer is "No"---nobody can write an installer that can see into the future but you'd be able to manually apply the sounds to any pack that isn't covered by default (the ECML-S HST springs to mind here)

Thanks for getting back, gptech.

In spite of it being Christmas, I have already had a reply from Richard. I see that my purchase was RS, which hasn't been supported for a number of years. It seems it is necessary to repurchase. It will still download though in its present form. I might wait and see if a Pro pack ever becomes available.

On thinking about it I guess this would never be possible, with Valenta engines no longer in use.

Sounds like you own the rail simulator (RS) version of the soundpack, the one your referring to as showing that you don't own it is the newer rail works (RW) version of the sound pack.

The old rs version used to work fine but after one of the new releases of train simulator, think it was last year's September update, it stopped working correctly and so I purchased the new rw version of the valenta and that got it working again.

Sounds worth getting then! Thanks

Just been watching a video on YouTube of one of the hst prototypes running on a preserved line earlier this year and it's running a valenta engine, obviously limited in top speed but you get to hear that gorgeous valenta scream numerous times in the video

Probably doubtful Richard could use it to make a pro soundpack but perhaps he could use it to enhance the current soundpack to make it even more authentic.

We can but dream of a Valenta pro soundpack, that would have been the icing on the cake far as I'm concerned as the hst is my most driven locomotive in the sim.

I suspect it probably is a case of "dream on", but:

I've now got the latest Valenta, so will be miffed if such a product is released anytime soon!

Just installed the Pro MTU pack.
I have been wondering if the mods Dave B did back then
Click to view more informationHST Update of exhaust/brake/ATP/rear sound [216422 bytes] - hst_drb_a1z.zip
File ID: 23719 Date: 12 Apr 2010 - 1894 Downloads

Would work along side the AP sounds pack or will it change things?
Also would it be easy add these mods to various reskins easily enough?
