Hi all
What about the first Maerdy branch? Is there really 3 different ones?

No, "Memories of Maerdy" is the first version. Unless you mean to refer to the prototype, the real thing, as the first version :P

Thinking of BR blue era scenarios for the updated a Maerdy route...

Can anyone advise on the duties performed by Cardiff Canton's then large diesel fleet?
My hunch (partly informed by published photos) was that the 5 6s displaced 37s from the metals trains and on the SWML (eg PT to Llanwern triple headers), but that the 37s held sway in the valleys and on coal. Would this be correct?

I've seen photos of 37s on the Rhondda Fach branch to Maerdy, but nothing larger...

I own both of them, as both lovely routes. The newer version is great for BR Blue or late steam operated NCB services.

Chris
Rising Storm -Name is in the credits :D - To Do scenario, where you go along at 50mph in a Pendo? Who would play it?
Anyone want to help in Play Testing future Rising Storm/ Ro2 Maps? If so please PM me.

I'm by no means an expert, but I don't ever recall a class 56 going up to Maerdy. It probably happened a few times, but would have been rare. They certainly ran up to Oakdale and some of the Eastern valleys.
The South Wales valleys were almost exclusively class 37 territory, perfect for the BR Blue reskins which can be downloaded from UKTS. You could maybe chuck in a stray class 47, but again that would have been rare.
I think Maerdy Yard had an allocation of 2 x Class 08 from Cardiff Canton during the 1980's.

Based on previous searches, I do believe that we are short of WR Cl 37 reskins for blue and green livery eras...

The centre box 37s that are around are either based on the non-available 37 pack or are for more modern liveries (eg AP S&C 37 skins :-( )

Split box blue or green 37s just look out of place on WR metals ;-)

Also - do any of the 37 models have buffer beam skirts?

Most of them will very quickly and easily port over to the S&C model, and/or the others bundled with routes such as Portsmouth Direct. Have a you a particular reskin you'd like to be able to use?

I think it's worth pointing out that DTG are selling this as "Return to Maerdy Loco Add-On" Some people are criticising the short route, which I think is a bit harsh as I don't see it as a route add-on. It's a loco add-on with a small route.

As mentioned above these Class 37's are based on a non available Class 37 pack.

Peter, as also mentioned above they'll easily port over to a range of available locos.

File ID: 26538 is the pack I was referring to, those reskins being perfect for South Wales, particularly the weathered examples, not to mention being of very high quality.
