Sound problem

Post by Timex »

I’m getting ‘flange’ audio effect in the background, sounds like air changing pitch slightly in one direction. It’s really annoying.
Flanging technically is basically two signals / tracks played at the same time.

Everything else is fine, seems to be worse on a 101 DMU for some reason.

Some locos/units are better than others, I’ve just tried the 350 on the WCML TV route it’s just as bad

I’ve tried forcing the Windows 10 OpenAL32.dll but it doesn’t change anything, also tried audio settings. It seems to come through the master volume not ambient sound.

I have a Sound Blaster Z card, I’ve tried my on-board audio - but it’s the same.
I'm running TS2016, but have the problem on previous versions.

I’ve had a trawl through google, can’t find anything much.
Anyone any ideas?

Unfortunately this has always been an issue but was worsened when the audio system changed around TS2012 time IIRC. It improved on one hand to allow an increased number of sounds to play at once and for EAX effects to be available to all but on the flip side, worsened the issue in question and removed surround sound directionality when fading sound using the 'ListenerDistanceSquared' control.

The top and bottom of it is that if you wish to reduce/remove this effect, you need to have three versions of every sound which sound sufficiently different.

Thanks Richard for the reply, I'm glad I have an answer.
The AP Class 40 doesn't have this problem :)
Thanks!
