Could be a real 'sweetener' for seemingly yet another London route. You have to give it to DTG - their marketing department would probably do well on the Apprentice!
Does look nice though doesn't it.

Wish that we could just buy the stock, and not the whole route

DTG would indeed do well on the Apprentice!
Class 59 is basically little more than a class 66 reskin, minimal effort on their part. Coupled with another identikit London route. In a nutshell, a new product that is nothing more than a slight re-hash of what already exists. Minimal effort, maximum profit. Even more blatant was the Riviera 1950's route for TS2016. The existing Riviera just backwards engineered slightly.
Not fooling me though. I haven't bought a DTG product for a considerable period of time and I won't until they start putting some effort in, creating something genuinely new and unique and sorting out their sounds department.

Have you actually looked at the Riviera line closely?
It is more than a re-engineered modern version and has five very good steam engines, three rakes of coaches and numerous wagons all with custom sounds.
It oozes atmosphere.

I hope they don't miss the bell off of 59201.

Not quite.
If you compare the bodies of the Class 59/2 & 66 there are a number of detail differences, bogies for example, and the locos should have different power characteristics.

Class 59`s are different, but know doubt DTG will use the same class 66 physics which would be a shame to turn a `new engine` into just a re-skin with different numbers, was not planning on buying this route as no interest in it, but might be tempted by the class 59, hopefully AP will do the full works on this and make a sound file and update the physics also and do 59/0 & 59/1.
would be great to add a class 59 to TS2016

I find this interesting - when a workshop Third Party did a revision of the Riviera Line to put in a different time period - the community went nuts on how great it was ---- now that DTG did the same - we get how lazy they are ---- just saying

It's not a surprise though, it happens every time.
The 59 hasn't even come out and its being slated.
For someone who hasn't got a particular route to be able to state how little has been done to it is quite impressive to be fair.

I'm no great fan of DTG but it seems DTG bashing seems to be order of the day on this forum at the moment. Another dev reuses sounds they are showered with praise DTG do it it's bash the living daylights out of DTG.

Hi
The 59's were the for runner to the class 66's they were originally used by Foster Yeoman and National Power, first introduced in 1985,only 15 were built, they were in three sub classes 59/0 Foster Yeoman,59/1 Amey Roadstone 59/2 National Power.
They were derived from the EMD SD40-2
Current operators
59/0) 59001/2/4/5 Foster Yeoman. Mendip Rail
59/0/ 59003 Gbrf before being sold to GBRf 59003 went to Germany in 1997 and sold to GBRf in 2014
59/1)59101/2/3/4 Hanson. Mendip Rail
59/2)59201/2/3/4/5/6 DB Schenker.
The 59/0 were built in Illinois, the 59/1 and 59/2 were built in Canada
That's a potted history of the 59's
Lets just hope DTG do the right one,for the Livery

Alas, it's the same old faces again. One wonders why they continue to embrace the sim but, at the same time, slag it off, as if in an act of desperation.....
A common feature is that the perceived negative points are selective - there are new features if one cares to see them. Whether one likes or dislikes the 1950's Riviera route is obviously subjective, but to claim that such work is nothing more than slight backwards engineering is odd, if not amusing, given the huge amount of work involved. And why use words like "blatant", as though we're all somehow being duped into buying it by some cunning means of subterfuge on DTG's behalf?
We all like what we like, according to individual preference, but please let's not make facetious comparisons with The Apprentice, as if DTG were actively trying to somehow "fool" us all. The bottom line is surely: If we don't like something, then we don't need to buy it.

I agree that DTG don't set out to intentionally fool anyone, and indeed if somebody doesn't like a product they can choose not to buy it.........but people still have the right to express negativity
as well as choosing not to buy a product they don't like.

In my view DTG have cottoned on that many train sim users are also fanatical collectors, much like model railwayer's... they'll buy almost anything to increase their collection even if it's little different to stuff they already have. This is the reason why DTG undeniably have a tendency to churn out 're-skins' because it requires little effort on their part and people will still buy them.
Note the use of the term 're-skin' in DTG parlance means the repeated re-issue of almost identical rolling stock, the latest being the Class 59 which however you cut it, is a Class 66 with some slightly different body-side grills. It's the fanatical collector in many of us that makes us think it's a completely different loco worthy of splashing out top dollar for. DTG have already released at least 3, maybe 4, different full priced DLC packs for the Class 66 all of which are essentially just reskins.
Of course modern 'shed' fans and the die-hard collectors amongst us will wholeheartedly disagree, but to my eye a Class 59 is a Class 66 but with a 59 on the side!!
