But the K1 is currently one of the best along side with your small prairie pack! Such detail on the model, sounds i think is pretty much spot on. Advance is really darn good! Same as the textures too, nice, crisp clear colour. Firing side of things i can actually raise some boiler pressure like a few models e.g. JT 5MT which whatever i do, the boiler pressure drops down alot for some strange reason (i'm sure real life doesn't do that!)

But I would say its 10/10 for me and really looking forward to your next models Victory Works

Now to carry on driving 62005 to Mallaig!

Loving this, had a run with it on the Jacobite to Glenfinnin for my first try with this (Come on it had to be done). Loving this add on so far with little details and how well thought out your add ons are.
Couple of slight niggles I noticed myself -
The coasting sound seems very quiet or lacking, not much motion clanking could be heard - very picky I know, but really adds to the atmosphere with the sim. Also when having the regulator wide open, and I had the reverser wound right down, between 25-20 on the in cab scale not F5 HUD. Boiler pressure dropped like a stone and was impossible keep pressure up, moments before I was right 'on the mark' damper opened and had lots of spare steam. Anyone else find this?

Sounds not as good as JTs 5 MT. Just done the 35 minute scenario where you haul 100 full coal wagons which I have forgotten the name of and are 2nd highest on the points list.

When driving in Advanced mode the tender water taps close normally, but when driving in non-advanced mode, the fireman's side water tap in the tender, doesn't close after having used the injector. To close it, I have to open the "F4" HUD. Otherwise, water will keep running (and tender water level keeps going down - it's not just the particle effect!).

That's about the only issue which I've found with the engine so far; beautiful piece of work Pete! Joy to drive!

A beautiful engine no doubt about that best to date

The engine goes quite well and is quite strong easily pulling heavy coal trains ect. The effects really do make this engine something else i love how on the worn k1 you can see steam coming though the floor from a leaking steam pipe.
There are plenty of switches to play with in the cab and i quite like how you can change the headboard on the fly

unlike some models which just come with mk1's ect the amount of rolling stock you get is fantastic all those wagons to play with and all for £11.99

now for the sounds.... they are deffinatly better than some other engines for example the safety valves on the k1 really do pop just like the real thing and some of the other sounds do help to add some depth to the engine. Now for the but...my first go on this wonderful engine was taking it over the west highland line to Mallaig and there were a few things i did notice for example when going up a 1 in 40 with 7 mk1's on the k1 should be barking its head off but just like Just Train's Standard 5 it doesn't and its noticeable. That being said i did hear a small spot in the sounds where the chuffing sounds die off before coming back around the 35-45 mark i think and finaly clanking or lack of i think it is there but its not really noticeable with the regulator shut the engine should be banging and clanking away even if its an engine in good condition the std 5 does this wonderfuly to the point i have to keep the regulator cracked to stop it clanking so much!!! just like the real thing.

so in conclusion id say this engine is a 9/10 simply for the amount of stuff you get with it. I can live with the sounds as they are not bad at all but if the engine made a bit more of a racket when being worked hard and banged and clanked its head off when coasting....well it just might be an 11/10

well im off to play with it some more......if your still thinking about getting it.....get it its wonderful

Got back up to third. You have to go fast as possible to get to your destination on time. Think I lost a bit of power after over filling the boiler. You know when that happens with clouds of steam coming out of the exhaust.

To tell you the truth I'm really glad this loco came with out the usual Mk 1 coaches,I hope the next LNER the J 21 I think ,will come with some Ex LNER none corridor coaches ,suitable for branch line passenger trains,not only would they be useful on Weardale,but 2 other routes North Lincolnshire,and the Cambridge Route as well

That's a curious comparison. The Just Train 5MT sounds are acknowledged as having some issues and efforts are being made to improve them. The key issue is inconsistency of volume across speed ranges, limited apparently by the quality of the original sounds, causing noticable changes during driving. At some speeds some users say they can hardly hear them.

The K1 sounds to my ears have been produced in a far more balanced manner with barely noticable change of beat or volume at different speeds.

Neither seem to have the real "bark" of a steam locomotive when working hard to my ears, but that is not at all unusual in Train Simulator. This may be a mixed blessing - many of those that do seem to have the side effect of "barking" even when cruising to a halt - a ridiculously unrealistic feature of many of the locomotives in the Rivera 1950s route for example. I guess perfection just isn't possible.

If sound is governed by speed, not by effort, yes then it will not be possible to achieve realistic sounds!

Same for trains slowing down to a standstill with brakes off - and still producing a sound of squeaking brakes.

If the actual force of the exhaust or brake pressure cannot be used to determine sound used, and volume of the sound, then developers have to fall back on such rules of thumb as deriving sound purely from speed, or change of speed.
Which will never mimic fully what the loco really does because it has no basis in actual physics of the train.

Hey guys,

Just wondering if others are really struggling keep up pressure with this in second valve? Fire mass seems ok, as I try to keep it around 1150 lbs on West highland extension. Engine is really worked hard up the steep grades, and can't maintain pressure when driving hard as needed to get up the gradients. I keep on top of the fire, and pressure is right on the mark. But, when driving with the regulator in 2nd valve and I aim to keep cutoff between 25-40. But no matter what, pressure drops so fast. I am not positive if I am applying similar realistic driving standards. Seems the only method and way of doing it whilst aiming for realism. Dampers are open, brakes running position; Just checking to see if it's a case of my driving method, or possibly the way the engine is set up.

Just as a side note I apply similar driving with the JT5 and steems like a rocket!

The JT 5MT has a bit too much power - perhaps that's why she's off like a rocket? The next update will adjust the power curves to be less powerful, especially at higher speeds, and more in line with reality.

Cheers for that, the makings are there to be driven as in reality, regulator wide open and driving by the cut off. Tricky one to judge which is right, as you said down to inexperience. I do fine with other engines. Why I asked in the videos thread, if anyone made a recording of them using steamers tackling gradients to see their style and approach. I shall see If I can get a question/reply from Karma, this is a great add on, so want to get most out of the driving.
