Off the top of my head, ActivFireman won't start the injectors unless the water level reaches 0.5, or unless the regulator is shut whilst coasting and the water level is less than 0.75 to use up steam and try and prevent the boiler from blowing off. I can dig out the script to be sure and confirm the figures tomorrow, if you'd like?
holzroller wrote:Chris, have had another look and it seems that it is the F5 display that is wrong, when you use the large ejector it tells you the small ejector is on, and shows nothing when you actually use the small ejector. Wonder if the rest of the info in F5 is correct now. No problems actually driving the engine so far, auto firemen seems to do his stuff, although have only managed a couple of short runs so far. Cylinder cocks are a pain with the keyboard though.
Thanks for confirming for me. The F5 display is indeed wrong, but that is actually intentional as it was the only way to get the large ejector to use more steam than the small ejector, with the existing brake setup. I think the manual goes through what everything in the F5 HUD relates to on the Advanced and Simple versions, I'm not sure though. As long as the keyboard and mouse operation is working correctly, that's all good. :)

The cylinder cocks are delayed (steam takes a moment from the actuator valve at the cab to the drain . valves at the cylinders), which is why they don't immediately change from open or closed after tapping the C key. Without knowing, I can imagine it would be annoying to operate if you kept pressing the key wondering why it's not responding immediately. :)

Signing out for tonight, :morning:

In the section on the HUD it tells you that the F5 display will show the small ejector open/closed so this is incorrect, although not the end of the world. The problem with the cylinder cocks is knowing how long to press the key. a quick press doesn't work, because of the delay unless you look down at the lever you don't know if it has worked. It's a bit clumsy if you don't have track IR, again not the end of the world.

When emptying the smokebox, it says in the manual that it takes about 20 seconds. The pile of ash at the bottom does not disappear, is it only shown for cosmetic reason or should it go.
I think I asked this about the 4MT when it came out, but can't remember what the answer was.

thanks
Anthony

It's a grand engine, sounds, looks, and runs great, but I've noticed a little problem with the sound and I was wondering if anybody else had it. Above 48mph, the sound of the exhaust (the chugging noises in layman's terms) goes silent. Everything else is still working, the sounds of the rail-joints, the whistle, and so on, but the sounds that should be coming out of the engine's stack just aren't there. Below 48mph, they're working fine, nice and loud and syncopated to the movements of the drive wheels, but above 48mph, nothing at all.

I've got the regulator wide open and the appropriate cutoff set, so it's not me shutting off steam, so it might be a bug. Just thought I'd ask while I was here.

Cheers Lads,
Brendan O.

Just want to echo other people's praise for this addon. It's brilliant all around and ticks all the boxes - more whitle samples would be nice however. Loving all the details of the models and such, begs the question will the 4MT and Clan be updated to reflect the changes?

Had an excellent drive on the WSR with it, and finding driving wise it was reacting and performing like the real thing on the gradients. So there really was the challenge of getting up the gradients, using similar driving style to real life and being efficient steam wise without blowing off. Bar the sound glitch that others have mentioned, I have a couple slight issues I am not fully sure on.

Maybe light can be shed on these thoughts just for sake of mind. As with the clan, when coasting it was said to crack the regulator slightly, to allow oil to be fed to the cylinders still. Otherwise would face issues with them jamming. The clan allowed this without the regulator actually being open, the 5MT however, it will open the regulator so speed increases. A minor issue I know but can make yard shunting that extra little tricky. Even, with the slightest tap of CTRL + A

Finally, it has only occurred once, I am not sure if it was circumstantial. I am not sure whether it's a glitch with the Simulator, the route I was driving, or just a one off that happened there and then. The issue was I had set up a small scenario on the WSR members addition from SSS. I had been free roaming already from BL upto Williton, but then wanted to add some AI. All was running fine, until the point I was approaching the crossing at MH. And the active driver popped up, saying the boiler pressure was too low - I was purposefully letting it drop, as it would be a long turn around. After that, the regulator and brake controls had stopped responding. Other controls still seemed to be working though. I obviously then had to quit.

I think it may have been mentioned already, will a caprotti version as an add-on be in the pipeline at all?

Hi Anthony, the pile of ash should be visible and seen to decent when emptying the smokebox. The quantity inside is randomised each time you start a scenario. The ash clearout dust effect, however, currently keeps on emitting even when the ash has been cleared out, and so it's a bit misleading. :( I've fixed this for the update.

Hi Brendan, as Longbow says, I'm sorry to say that it's a bug. Exhaust sounds will return above 60mph. It will be right when the update is available.

Hi Kirk, thanks for your kind compliments. :) I don't know if either I or JT will ever have time to update the 4mt or Clan - I would personally like them to be more up to date but I think it's unlikely at the moment, I'm afraid.

Was ActivHints turned on when this happened, or did it just decide to randomly message you?

I don't honestly know, although there certainly aren't any plans to do a caprotti version before the Britannia and K4, as far as I know. Perhaps if the 5MT sells really well or higher than expectations, JT might consider an addon pack, but that is just speculation on my part so please don't get your hopes up or anything. :)

I think that's everyone covered since I last visited...

Kind regards,
Chris

Hey Chris,

Thanks for the updates, certainly seems you have your hands full at the moment! looking forward to the Brit just as much :D

Activhints was on at the time yes, just as an extra little guide to hone my skills. I will have to re-load the scenario again tonight and try and replicate and try a different route to see if it re-occurs.

Understandable regards the rest, would be nice extra little variety and also the real one is hellfire!

Thanks for confirming that Kirk, you enabled me to quickly trace down the issue in the script and I have now (hopefully) fixed the control lockup issue. :) In fact I noticed a few problems I've now fixed in the engine monitor function that drives ActivHints and ActivFireman, after scouring the thing for an hour or so, so I've hopefully resolved all ActivHint or Fireman related issues now.

Kind regards,
Chris

Hey Chris,
That's brilliant response. And glad you could quickly ascertain related issues. It's true it helps you can be staring at the same item for ages and notice nothing. Walk away and come back later and it's so easy to spot them

Loved slogging this up washford with 7 and plenty of steam to spare. I am not very experienced in this department so can't comment with confidence, what's the braking performance like? I ask as rolling into Crowcombe at 15~20. Applying the brakes in good time at bring them down to about 15psi which seems standard for slowing down. The train overshot the platform by a good couple of coaches and required me to bring the pressure below 10psi.

I have heard there is some type of tender bug in the Simulator somewhere, that affected braking. Not sure if this applicable here. At the time I was using the mk1's from Digital Traction

I can complete the WLOS scenario but I don't get a green tick as it says I have only stopped at 3 of 4 destinations, which I have done. Done the scenario 3 times with the same result.

Great engine reminds me of when 73096 was in traffic on the mid hants railway worked on her quite a few times cracking engine :D she didnt half make a racket on the clime out of Alton with six on it was a sad day when she came out of traffic :( . As for the train sim version what a great model one of the best to date sounds are nice. plenty of power and steams well my only criticism is that it does not sound loud enough std 5's make quite a racket.

so then what next from Just Trains a new black 5 per chance  well what ever it is im sure it will be another great engine :D
