DP Simulation Scenario Packs - Freeware.

Post by rfletcher72 »

For reasons that are explained via the link below, DP Simulation have withdrawn all their payware scenario packs from sale and re-released them as freeware - free of charge:

http://dpsimulation.blogspot.co.uk/2015 ... lable.html

As is true of anything in life, there is no such thing as a free dinner (or lunch for my southern/posh friends). The whole purpose of the sale of these packs was to maintain the costs of running the DPS site, with it's wealth of freely and instantly available TS content. However the point was reached whereby this was actually defeating the object of the exercise hence this course of action.

I ain't going to go any further on this other than to say please take a moment to visit the link above, and if anyone has any concerns over having bought packs previously and these are now available FOC, just pause to think how much (little) you shelled out for them in the first place.

In the meantime, if you have not already done so, go forth and enjoy all these great freeware scenarios :) ,

I second Richards comment these were the best payware scenario packs I ever purchased having purchased the bulk pack for a mere £12 it gave me well in excess of 50 scenarios for that price which is massive!!!!

I highly recommend these and having read the post on their site i respect their reasons for doing this. I highly recommend these to you all and wish DPS and there content creators the very best and look forward to future releases

It's a shame it has come to this............I bought all the packs fairly recently and have to say that they represent outstanding value for money! I will continue to support the site via donation and urge everyone who has benefited from this amazing resource to do likewise.

These are indeed excellent scenario packs. And supporting DPS is a very worthwhile cause.

Might I make a suggestion?

Introduce a "paid suggestion" system whereby donors for non-minute sums (I'm thinking around £150) can have a bespoke scenario /reskin / etc created to their (hopefully fairly loose) requirements but with the proviso that it is released as freeware as well.

This should be a lot less hassle in administration terms, and also increase the amount donated.

On the other hand it will probably stifle creativity. I would thus also suggest a "bounty" system where you can post scenarios you wish to create and they can basically be adopted by those who would pay for a scenario.

Did you miss the . out of that figure?
This forum is full of folk who complain that 20 quid is too much for a route, I can't see many forking out 150 quid for a reskin.

There certainly are people out there that will pay figures like that for bespoke scenarios (in the plural) but they certainly don't frequent forums like this and I can't see any reason why they should want to give away what they have paid for.

The second freeware scenario pack for WCML Trent Valley is now available for download, this one is a freight pack:

First pack was excellent so I assume this will be too. :D

Just downloaded and driven 4H17 1319 Wembley - Trafford Park with the Class 92 which can only be described as epic - we are clearly in for a 'Trent Valley Treat' here!

Donation sent to DPS.

Taking the points in turn:
Carinthia wrote:they certainly don't frequent forums like this
They may not post much, because of either lack of time or things to say - but there's nothing to stop them lurking. I can guarantee a few do. And in any case I wasn't necessarily linking it to this forum but something DPS could consider
Carinthia wrote:I can't see any reason why they should want to give away what they have paid for
Several reasons come to mind:
  • Alturism
  • Their interest is in getting it made, not in getting it made for them
  • They don't lose anything by permitting others to share
But even if you disagree with that, there is also an alternative model for the more "selfish" - pay and two scenarios are made, a private one for the donor and a public one as well.

It's not as if £150 is £150 000. This could be a nice present for a spouse, for instance.

I'd rather she bought me 150 quids worth of Black Sheep.... I'd probably be able to create some very interesting scenarios myself then...
arabianights wrote:It's not as if £150 is £150 000
But it might as well be for many TS users; as soon as you price something out of reach it doesn't matter what the price is--all that matters is that they can't afford it.
arabianights wrote:pay and two scenarios are made, a private one for the donor and a public one as well.
so you propose doubling the work for each *donation*.... the 'scenario for the commoners' would have to be substantially different to the 'rich gits' scenario in order for that scheme to work.

Why not approach Darren and see what he'd charge you for a bespoke scenario and then flesh out the idea to something workable? (if at all possible)
