Sorry to hear that, it may be worth installing a second clean copy and keeping that as an offline version?

Even though we've been assured that nothing has been changed or edited that is now the likeliest cause of the issue.

bigmull...rather than spend weeks/months adding stuff piece-meal simply cut your 'now working' assets folder out of the game to somewhere safe and copy/paste your old assets folder in. Then test; if it works fine then the problem must be in the routes.
If it doesn't work, then the assets folder holds a rogue so to double check delete that assets folder and copy/paste your 'now working' one back in and test agin, just to make sure that they still work.
As that will (confidence!!) repeat the testing but this time focus on the Contents folder.
If that works then it must be in the assets..... get the idea?

Once you've determined which folder set the problem really lies in just add half of the routes or assets, depending on which set is the one being worked on, and test again.
If it works add half of the remaining half...test. If it works, add half of the remaining half of the second half..... binary progression; a very quick and easy way to narrow the search down to a particular chunk of folders. Once you've worked out which chunk, go through the process again within that chunk, to narrow it down further, eventually finding the culprit.

If you can remember editing a scenario/route, even just saving progress in a scenario/route is a change, then that would give you a narrowed down list to start with.

Small problem arose so having to redownload a clean copy.I will copy the Assests folder and see what happens then,if all ok i will then go on to check the routes as you suggest.I will look at the Weardale route as that was the last route i was playing when the crash resulted.

As Weardale is a Steam supplied route you'll get a fresh copy of it with a new install, so there'd be no need to copy your *old* version back into the game
Unless you've edited any *official* DLC these can all be safely ignored when copying stuff into the fresh install.
Scenarios you've added that aren't 'as supplied' should then be added in small groups, noting which ones of course so if it falls over after adding a group you know which ones to look at in detail.

i think the easiest way is to reinstall my 3rd party routes manually,i dont have that many so it shouldnt be too long a process.

Well eventually i have all my DLC up and running.I am sure there are a few missing locos,so will be tracking them down.Im sure they are the SDJR Black 5's from SSS.I have found that there are some assets that "appear" to be installed but arent,i tracked a few down and reinstalled them.So the good thing is i have a functioning TS at last. Thanks for all the Advice.
