Significance of coordinates

Are the North and East coordinates related to geographic location, such that these coordinates are used to calculate sun position and length of day?
Not that I'm aware of. The only thing I can see which dictates sun position and time of day is the seasons.
In TS2015 land, I don't think the sun goes down in the Summer earlier in Glasgow than it does in Munich, for example.
