Steam Refund? Theoretically Speaking

Post by pjt1974 »

I've just posted a review on Steam for the excellent WCML Trent Valley route.

Upon reviewing my review in the activities page (the one that shows who has bought what and who has uploaded screenshots etc..) I noticed that it actually lists my play time on the WCML Trent Valley above the review. The record shows I have 0 hours in the last two weeks and 0.0 hours on record.

Now I have run one of the supplied scenario's for the route, I've run a quickdrive end to end and I've also created 3 scenario's (two in the Workshop, one waiting for Dovetail Games to sort out a problem with the Workshop not recognizing the Class 117 NSE). My hours using route must be about 20 so far, maybe more

Theoretically speaking, the DLC is less than 2 weeks old and Steam records show I have 0.0 hours of use out of it, could I get a refund?
For disclosure, I am affiliated with a third party developer however, I do not know anything about any future releases unless I'm working on them and even then, I'd be breaking years worth of built up trust to say anything about it ;-)

The policy is that after purchasing the dlc to get a refund you must have only played the game two hours since.

Yes, because you've only played Railworks for less than 2 hours, since purchasing it, according to Steam's records, so, quite entitled to one if you so desire. It's not theoretical, it's practical.

Hmmm...

I do love optimism!

I think, from what I remember of the statement to which you tick your assent every time that you buy from Steam, that non-consummation of marriage does not entitle you to return the bride... :(

But, like it's written before, you need to pay attention, that there is no time counter for any DLC, only for the main program TS2015 itself.

It's a little bit tricky and some people failed because of this to get their money back. The time period of 2 hours playing time must be between the buying the DLC and the refund request! Steam can't find out, how long you've played the DLC, only how long you've played the TS 2015. So it's better to buy a DLC, proof it with a scenario or a quick drive and if you don't like it to request the refund immediately - and then to wait until Steam says, you'll get your money back. Most times this will happen within two or three hours.

As Moudy says, but as I understand it, you can't use TS 2015 again until your refund has been approved (possibly OK off-line but not sure on that point)

Important is the point of time, you request the refund. Between this point of time and the purchase of the DLC you must have played the TS less than two hours, regardless which content you have used.

And if you like to avoid unnecessary problems you'll wait until Steam gives you the approval of refund. Because Steam seems to process these requests very quickly, it's the better choice, although it's not implicitly necessary.
