Apart from the track being as is, the container terminal area looks not a lot like it should. Hope its WIP and the 3 storey office is just a placeholder as it does not exist, nor some of the large warehouses. Where trains shunt detail should be high. Not keen on the very low res RSDL car assets being used near the line either. Whats with devs producing really detailed trackside items but still re using ancient assets right next to them. £10 for a short length of line should be very detailed. It's got a way to go before i'd buy it but for the most part, its looking good.

And what Container Terminal would that be, as it closed down its operations in 1986, all that is left there now are a couple of tracks. All JT need to put in are some large white warehouses on that spit of land and they've got the modern area just about covered.
I'll still use the other far more detailed layout offering though and coupled with Jamie Edward's excellent Crouch End v3 route and I can still get from Harwich Town Station to London Liverpool Street, for free.
Cheerz. Transport Steve.

A new container terminal is going to open, Harwich International Port Container Terminal but at a different location, Bathside Bay as part of the Felixstowe Port expansion.
The yard at Harwich see's a lot of Network Rail use now. The only regular freight workings are to the tip and the refinery.
I resumed that DTG would do a Sheerness with the Harwich branch, maybe they will in time.
The GEML route needs updating as there is a new Felixstowe North, the north one in train simulator in now called Central. But I suppose DTG games would spend all there time updating existing routes and not making new ones.
Agree the crouch valley route has the branch included, has it stopped at v3 or will it's development continue.

I don't know the history of the site, but it was certainly packed with both containers and trains on the 2000 Google Earth coverage. Maybe just irregular workings ?

<<GWR to Bristol will be harder to do because the track would have to be added to.>>
Fair enough, but in that case I'm suprised that the "empty" track in Portsmouth Woking has nver been updated.
I think that as big scenery building for TS2015/16 may make builders nervous because of impending changes to the core and they are concentrating on getting ready to the next generation/engine of TS anyway, extending (or adding branch lines) to some of the existing scenery might be a useful alternative pastime.
Cheers John

Temporary storage Steve, probably. Harwich Parkeston Quay used to have the 2 Freightliner ships that ran across on the Harwich-Zeebrugge daily service, then in 1985 the service was transferred to Felixstowe, which had been expanded and split in 1983 to become Felixstowe North & South, they pinched the Zeebrugge service from Harwich PQ which then forced its unfortunate closure in 1986. The cranes were still there for quite some considerable time afterwards, but, the Freightliner daily train services then went to Felixstowe and the Containerships all went there as well and to Tilbury as that was the only other nearest deep sea port. I was offered a job at Felixstowe South in 1987, which my boss at the time at Freightliner Headquarters in London said I could walk straight into, but, I turned it down, I was only 27, my Mother was ill and the country was in a recession, so, I decided to stay and work nearer home, unsure what would have happened now, life is all about ifs and buts and making decisions.
Cheerz. Steve.

I work down Parkeston yard quite regularly and you'd be surprised, a lot of freight is using the yard at present and a few million £ has been spent upgrading the sidings for the high output ballast train. So it's quite rejuvinated down there! Ok the freight is only stabled there and not loaded/unloaded but it does see a lot of action. Probably not enough action to make interesting activities though. Unless you like doing what I do most weeks, which is probably boring in a sim!
We currently stable a 12 car 321 and two 8 car 321's in the yard every night also.
I'm not too impressed with the detail at Harwich international/Parkeston.

Perhaps it would have been more appropriate and conciliatory to have separated these off-topic posts into another thread at the time that the cleansing process took place, has as happened in the past with other tangential threads?.
I am pretty sure some posters who may have come a cropper during this process will now have forgotten exactly what they posted.

A simple tangential situation can be split off Richard as you have stated, However, there were at least three other possible threads within this thread. Morecambe Branch, DP Leeds - York and WCML.

To make it really modern there should be 4 Polish Lorries and a crowd of border agency staff around them, but the main thing that is missing from modern routes with container ports and ferry terminals are decent modern container ships and ferries.

You would assume the same, as there is no other person doing a GEML extension to Harwich officially.
