It turns out it does have DSD! You can switch it on or off by pressing CTRL D. However there is no sound associated with it! Schoolboy errors yet again.

I've just posted a quick how-to above though, hardly rocket science is it?gptech wrote:I'd guess because for many, editing things is too difficult.thetrainfan wrote:Why not?driverden wrote:Mmm I wont be buying a DTG class 442 Wessex then.
Oh btw Dave, running a 10-car set seems too sluggish with both DTS' unpowered so I've put the DTS (B) as powered to make it a bit more realistic.

Most schoolboys I've come across couldn't give a hoot about DSD...as long as it goes at 120MPH and crashes they're happy37114 wrote:Schoolboy errors yet again.
Would you say the *error* is that there's no sound or that the key combination was left in when the DSD feature was (possibly) removed?
True Sean, but there will be some members who are very reluctant to delve into the innards of stuff, believing it to be akin to some form of black art---that's where more than 'a quick how to' is needed and the job of hand holding them through the procedure becomes as hard to do as the job itself is to them.thetrainfan wrote:I've just posted a quick how-to above though, hardly rocket science is it?
Debunking the mystery surrounding the game files, explaining why editing a .bin is essentially no more difficult than composing a forum post is the key but that often turns into something too lengthy and complicated looking in itself for them to grasp. Only driverden can answer the question I guess.
Of course there's absolutely no need to edit the .bin files to be able to drive the thing, just go easy on the throttle!....it's not as if the model is particularly *broken* in it's default state and doesn't need a fix to make it drivable.
Re: DTG Class 442 Wessex
Some people might be happy with this little missile I mean train as it is. But for those who want to alter the bin files it's a easy enough task even I can do it. Plus there are enough people here that'll help if you get stuck.

Re: DTG Class 442 Wessex
Yes, I'm in total agreement that it's easy but not everybody thinks like me.....or you, or Sean. No matter how many times we tell them it's easy it's not guaranteed to convince them. The point that you're missing is that it's not essential to edit anything, unless you want to; and if you want to but can't then there are plenty of folk in here who'll help you. Lets not forget that not only do we have members who can't edit files, we have those who simply don't want to: there's always the possibility that driverden doesn't want the 442 because it's not *right* straight out of the box rather than an inability to tinker.Merlin75 wrote:But for those who want to alter the bin files it's a easy enough task
Re: DTG Class 442 Wessex
What should the top speed of the GE be ? I edited the 4 .bin files and played the 7.29 scenario (here on UKTS) as far as Gatwick Airport so far.
The highest speed I could reach was on the stretch before the airport, 80mph. Most of the time much lower due to the reduced acceleration.
Something very strange about the AI at Haywards Heath but that's another matter.

Re: DTG Class 442 Wessex
The 442 has a maximum (allowed) speed of 100MPH, though it holds the world speed record for a 3rd rail train having been clocked at 108MPH.Clemmo47 wrote:What should the top speed of the GE be ?
The Gatwick Express service takes about 30 minutes to cover the 27 or so miles from Victoria to Gatwick, so that's an average of 54MPH (approx.) I'd assume the top speed it attains is determined by the line speed.

Re: DTG Class 442 Wessex
Fair enough Gary. I wouldn't be put off buying it though.
As I said last night, I felt disabling the power on both DTS' made it too sluggish so I only changed it on one DTS (both the nd and Driver files) and got up to speed no problem.

I have done some editing on older models to add newer bits and change control inputs etc, but straight out of the box, no way!New postby gptech on Sat May 30, 2015 8:44 pm

Why not?
I'd guess because for many, editing things is too difficult.
Re: DTG Class 442 Wessex
I'll change the 2 DTS B .bin files back to default. The Gatwick Express did seem a bit sluggish in the scenario I ran .Brighton-Victoria 7.29 (UKTS 34309 which needs revising for other reasons btw).

Re: DTG Class 442 Wessex
Having picked up this unit n the sale I'm not that impressed.
The compressor sound mentioned earlier is not that bad to my ears as they were fitted the the standard versions fitted to other southern units.
But the Bogie sound when in the cab is just rubbish - nothing like rail joint sounds.
I might look for something else or maybe wait until AP do a sound pack.
Peter

Shameless plug I know, but an NSE reskin of the 5WES is now available:
http://www.dpsimulation.org.uk/rf72reskins.html
NB. It has been tested by several people and no installation issues were reported.

I was going to say the red line above the windows is not high enough, but comparing pictures with the prototype show that the windows need to be taller on DTG's model for everything to line up. But you probably already know that.
