Do any routes have a convincing spring?
Well spring is here, but not in TS2015.
In my view spring is the least convincing of the seasons that it simulates. The routes I've got have hedgerows in full leaf and flower and trees with no leaves on at all. The only exceptions are Steven Pass which has some tree species in leaf and North Norfolk which has most trees bare but one type (oak?) in full leaf. I've not seen any routes that have trees with blossom or trees and shrubs in bud.
Which route do you think has the best representation of spring?

Its a simulation not the real thing.

I miss flowers in spring as well but I guess spring is just the most difficult season to emulate, because everything changes a lot over it's course.
Flowering trees would have been pretty though - you'll have to get the Japan route for that, Story of Forest Rail.

TS does spring as winter with no snow. Its spring right now and there is a ton of green outside with some trees in blossom. I don't think its a major thing to change if your able to edit textures. You just need some good photos of trees right now and a chunk of time to do them. If I ever get time adding grasses back to winter was always on my to do list.

It's tricky though as this time last month, there wasn't much green around and few, if any, trees had started coming out. I agree though that for variety's sake, it should be a half way between the bareness of winter and greenery of summer. It still irks though me that you can't set a scenario in winter without there being snow on the ground which only happens on a handful of days a year in this country. I know you could say to use 'Spring' but then you are left with wildly inaccurate sunrise/sunset times if you're wishing to represent winter.Stone75 wrote:TS does spring as winter with no snow. Thanks for that Trev, if you hadn't mentioned it, nobody would have ever known.Trev123 wrote:Its a simulation not the real thing.

The weather system in spring and autumn is faulty on some routes with distant hills.
They have a horrible white colour and fog is also affected.
This can be modded but the easiest thing is to change season to summer or winter.

Totally agree and would love to see more winter options. Hardly even see snow in my neck of the woods yet the high ground around us does. Blue skies and a hard frost would look good and love to see wet weather textures too. It's all possible if they just did not limit textures to 4 sets. Well my head is spinning with ideas nowphat2003uk wrote:It's tricky though as this time last month, there wasn't much green around and few, if any, trees had started coming out. Not a problem, glad I was of some help to someone.atlasduff47 wrote:Thanks for that Trev, if you hadn't mentioned it, nobody would have ever known.Trev123 wrote:Its a simulation not the real thing.

I always imagine the spring setting in game to actually be a winter one but more of a typical cold winters day say January/February, since after all it's not always snowy in winter....

So is the consensus that no routes have a convincing spring?

Re: Do any routes have a convincing spring?
Asking as someone who's not a route builder, and only occasionally a scenario creator:
What changes between seasons, and how is the winter snow done? Is it just ground and tree textures? Is the snow an overlay, or a ground texture? Can objects (e.g. bales in fields in summer) be season-specific? Are there other things that (can) change?
I've been wondering, as I drive a few WCMLoS scenarios, what I should expect to be different - there's a house just south of Lancaster (IIRC) with a trampoline in the garden, and I'm wondering whether it stays out in winter!

Re: Do any routes have a convincing spring?
Snow is created by textures mainly. Trees for example have a texture for each time of year. So it quite possible to change all your tree textures to the bare spring ones instead of winter so no snow is on them. Change buildings in a similar way and your winters will now have ground snow but has melted off trees and roofs. No doubt a few items would need a re-texture. Some snow is a placed item though, such as drifts in the donner route. These only show in winter. The trampoline in your garden is for the route builder to omit but the scenario writer to put in. For me, vehicles, people, animals and just about anything else that moves I do not place in the route editor. Instead I have a base scenario with such items placed. This way I can move, delete or add items as fits the scenario. I hate seeing the same red truck parked near a fence in every scenario or lots of people at 4am. Lots you can play with but takes a little time and effort.
