New tech article - audio occlusion

Post by chrisell »

For any developers who are interested, I've added another audio tech article to my site - this one deals with the audio occlusion blueprint : http://christrains.com/ts_faq_audioocclusion.html

You total star ! I am off to do me carriages and loco. I was busy playing with narrow gauge sound files - part of my endless "Richard Does Tinkering" project - and considering making special interior sound files of external sounds like track etc.

It's interesting. You can only get so far with occlusion of the exterior sounds. What I end up with on mine is a combination of outside-only sounds that get occluded, with some unique inside-only sounds to make up for the difference. The DM90 project I'm working on right now has a totally different diesel engine hum inside than I expected. Muffling the outside sound didn't do it for me. But in the process of all this experimenting I learned a lot about occlusion so I figured a quick tech note would be a worthwhile addition.

Just tried it Chris and it works a treat on the railhead and joint sounds and especially for making the inside of coaches sound like the inside. Thank you. I feel a narrow gauge sounds update coming on ...........
