Problem with "invisible" coaches in train consist

--Hi all,

I have created a standard scenario in TS2015 with a Class 390 consist from Polmadie depot into Glasgow Central then non-stop to Carlisle.

About half way through my first run of the scenario I noticed that the rear half of the train consist appeared to be invisible.

If I switched cameras to the camera that follows the side of the rear cab the invisible coaches appear but when I switch back to the leading cab the rear coaches are invisible again.

Hi

If you've used a reskin of the 390 for your scenario, check to see that you've copied across all of the relevant .geoPcDx files from the standard model to the reskin - this is usually the cause of stock not showing. If you're not sure how to check this, please come back here and we'll talk you through it.

However, if your scenario uses the standard Class 390, then I'd say that the problem is a lack of system resources. Have you tried turning your graphics setting down a notch to see if that makes any difference? I tend to think this is the cause of the problem, since you say you can see those coaches in the rear helicopter view.

I'm puzzled because the 390 has never caused any problems before.

Just out of interest, and so we can laugh at you ( :wink: ) what are your PC specs? You may only have one slightly weak link that could easily be 'fixed'

There is a known issue with consists becoming invisible with the camera position not changing (such as a signal check for 3 minutes or more). Switching view and back usually rectifies this.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1

I'm seriously considering upgrading the memory from 4GB to 8GB - I've been quoted about £25 for this - can I expect this to help much? At the same time, I'm going to give the system a good clean as it's not had one for a while.

Will changing the resolution help - I'm currently running at Full HD 1920x1080 - what would be a suitable alternative resolution for a 40" LCD?

I would love to be able to replace the machine completely but not sure if I can afford it for a while as I have a very low income due to health problems so hoping to try and tweak this one as much as I can.

I think using a 40" LCD on a system that size could be the problem. Should use a LCD/LED monitor around about 22" for a system like that. The bigger the monitor/TV the more grunt you need to drive it.

I think 1920x1080 may be a bit high with only 512 MB VRAM, though it may be doable with careful graphic settings.

4GB is not enough for a 64 bit OS. 8GB should be minimum. Make sure to get a pair of memory sticks matching those you have. Can usually be checked in BIOS.

Windows 64 bit can use some more space for system resources like pool and whatever physical RAM is not in active use by processes will be used as cache by the file system, making it faster.

Slightly alarmist?
A 64 bit OS will run with 4GB of RAM with no problems, but as the main advantage of such a system is the ability to address more memory it's certainly advisable to fit more--8GB is a good starting point, as already suggested.

The weaker part though is the graphics card; low end GPU running at a high resolution is pushing it a bit. Try running the game in a window, even borderless, possibly try a smaller monitor as a quick test to see if taking the load down improves things.

Yes, true - it's a memory issue. But not caused by physical memory in Your computer - that's an issue caused by software itself. An old and constantly reported bug DTG/RSC/RSDL/Kuju or whoever developed core software for RailSimulator/RailWorks/TS 20XX never found solution to. My experience - vanishing rolling stock issue mostly happens when Kuju folder is activated by some very detailed route or very memory hungry rolling stock used. Just few days ago I started to make scenario for Keith Ross fantastic Port Road (commercial version) and ecxactly the same happened. You go to outer view then move around the player train and AI gets visible again. Another case was with ICE-1 train in Hamburg-Hanover route. The ICE-1 has 12 coaches and 2 locos and all rolling stock items have separate blueprints and as summary occupy unexpected amount of memory. So this start to cause memory overloading. Some objects in TS20XX will be loaded on-the-fly using short data streaming sessions, another ones will stay in random access memory from the beginning of scenario till the end. That's the reason why very long routes can't be created for TS 20XX. The core software is a big bottleneck currently and DTG is not able to touch those serious problems without affecting gameplay negative way. There are much easier to address bugs still ruining trainsimming experience DTG haven't still fixed.
