For most of us, our partaking in this unique and fringe hobby is born out of an interest in the subject of railways probably seeded long ago in our youth. This hobby allows us to participate in the (not extreme) experience of driving locomotives and units through the medium of simulation. It is done because we want to drive our favourite loco's on routes of interest. For many we also like to be able to recreate scenes and experiences from the past that are now wiped out from reality be it steam era or BR blue etc.

Train driving is not an extreme thing, quite the opposite in fact so personally I'm a bit dumbfounded by RSC's continual attempts to try to make it into something it's not. However, like I said, as long as it doesn't interfere with the serious simulation side, then whatever...

I certainly could not have put it any better than this, so errrrr, what he said!

Richard Branson is picturing it in his mind now "Virgin East Coast Extreme". Sounds good!

We live in an age driven by marketing spiel and hyperbole, maybe that in itself is the most extreme part.
Unfortunately it's how it is; the internet/social media/instant communication has made us all talk drivel, just to be heard/seen rather than have anything *real* to convey---it's the same with any product, any new version is lauded to high heaven using the latest 'buzzwords' to stay in the public eye. Like it or not, it appears to be a system that works, so get used to it. You always have the option to ignore the pre=release campaign and wait till something actually arrives.

I've introduced two guys to TS who had, and still have, no interest at all in real trains or railway operations---they enjoy the gaming side of things so your statement isn't all-encompassing.

Maybe, just maybe, targeting the gaming community and trying to give the game mass appeal is why it's just how you describe it?
Personally I'd rather see playing with toy trains (digital or scale model ones) come out of the 'niche' corner and be a pursuit that people don't have to worry about anybody finding out about their little *indulgence*; one where users--serious geeks or just the 'slam it in forward and hit the gas' crowd--can all enjoy the same product without being castigated by 'outsiders' or even the other faction.

I'm another one who doesn't get Extreme-ly excited about these announcements.

We will need to see what the new updates are. But chances are anything that's current in 2015 will still be usable in 2016. You don't have to use the new features if you don't want to. LIke I have never used Quick Drive. Cant be bothered with that. I used it just to see what it did but its not my cup of tea. It sits there and is never clicked. Fingers crossed everything in 2015 will carry on working as is.
