Train Simulator 2015 Extreme?????

I often think that adding Extreme to the name of anything in a series is an act of desperation to over hype to keep interest. Who do they think they are appealing to? The surfer dude generation?

I can imagine the new derailment message 'complete fail man' or 'bogus dude'

Big hype, small announcements. Wouldn't be the first time.

It's a very early announcement but perhaps they wanted to squelch any rumours about the next version being based on UE4 already.

They announce having routes in different era's - of course Soldier Summit will be in the '80s but it makes me a little bit hopeful that there will actually be a steam age route included

Remember they have teased us the pump cart, and I don't think that this will come with a Soldier Summit in the '80s!

Let's wait and see what else they will be announcing over the next half a year and what bugfixes they will be coming up with before that time.

Victory Works has a not revealed steamer waiting for the announcement of a route it was made for. Reading between the lines I got the impression that it has been delayed. Maybe that's the one?

They won't give up on their mission to make train simulation mainstream will they? I don't really care for this and RSC can do as they please just so long as it doesn't impact on the simulation side as it currently stands...

For most of us, our partaking in this unique and fringe hobby is born out of an interest in the subject of railways probably seeded long ago in our youth. This hobby allows us to participate in the (not extreme) experience of driving locomotives and units through the medium of simulation. It is done because we want to drive our favourite loco's on routes of interest. For many we also like to be able to recreate scenes and experiences from the past that are now wiped out from reality be it steam era or BR blue etc.

Train driving is not an extreme thing, quite the opposite in fact so personally I'm a bit dumbfounded by RSC's continual attempts to try to make it into something it's not. However, like I said, as long as it doesn't interfere with the serious simulation side, then whatever...

Yeah, I think it's just a marketing thing. But I am not sure it did "Ship Simulator: EXTREMES!" much good either.

Second that. Definitely a weird marketing decision. Almost kind of embarrassing in a way.
"It's like driving steam engines and picking up passengers and stuff... but EXTREME."

DTG make it sound like we're getting trains with guns and rocket engines and some kind of alien invasion...

EDIT: Although I admit, I would probably have fun playing an 1890ies "War of the Worlds Scenario"...

Seconded!

Some locos are perhaps extremely big, such as the Big Boy.

Some routes are driving through extreme terrain, such as Donner Pass or Soldier Summit.

But overall as a rule, there's nothing Extreme to train driving. I don't get it, this marketing message of "Beat the Extreme!".

Anyway we'll see what they make out of it.

My first thought was that it's slightly 'embarrassing' also...

The word 'extreme' in gaming parlance conjures up anything but train simulation. Why oh why they won't stick with their core audience? People engage with a train simulator because they are interested in simulating trains. All RSC have to do is just keep developing and improving the sim aspects (as evidenced by the AP Class 40) and the customers will keep buying anything they produce.

With a niche like this then you don't have to keep pushing 'extreme' marketing ploys to keep up interest. The users of the sim are train nuts and always will be, it's in the blood. It's not something you will dabble in then move on from like COD or GTA. It is the only viable, modern and still developed train simulator in the world with no serious competitor. Just stick to what it is please and keep making it better, that's all most of us would want I'm 100% sure.

Probably means they'll go back to ridiculous Career scenarios where you have to drive like a lunatic with no consideration for any passengers you're theoretically moving from place to place. I can't wait.

Exactly what I was thinking Keith. I've been trying out a few career scenario's lately and some of the original ones are crazy.
