Because DTG have chosen not to give a Settings option to turn off Track-IR use (and I guess this will also effect Track-IR users) then the mouse look controls do not work at all if you have run FTNoIR ever - it doesn't even need to be active.
Which is fine if you intend to ALWAYS use FTNoIR or TrackIR, however if you decide to not use it (maybe you just washed your hair and don't fancy wearing a jaunty cap, or in my case you're logging in for a quick check of something in a loco cab and don't want the bother of getting the tracking centralised, etc. for a 30 second drive) then you will NOT be able to look around the cab using the "hold right mouse button" method.
After some research I found that TS (and most TIR compatible software) uses a registry entry to detect if you own Track-IR. Most of them also give you the option to turn off using the equipment in the settings - but some old ones, and TS, don't.
I am going to precede the following advice with a MASSIVE DISCLAIMER!
If you DO NOT understand the full implications of editing a PC's registry and you are not 100% confident in doing it, THEN DON'T! You can mangle your entire system very badly if you make a mistake. I'm not going to give a step by step for this reason.
To those who are savvy with reg editing, and have the issue, you can remove the following entry [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NaturalPoint]
FaceTrackNoIR will replace the entry every time you start it so you'll need to do this each time you want to change between FTNoIR and mouse look if you use it again.
I have no idea if Track-IR will replace the reg entry, you may have to do it yourself or it could break it horribly, so caution is advised.
But for occasional users of FTNoIR like myself, the above is the workaround for DTG's oversight
I just tested TrackIR and everything works fine if you decide to run TS2015 without running TrackIR - just do not start the TrackIR software, cab, passenger and out of cab views work as they did before with the mouse controlling the view. It seems the problem then is with FaceTrackNOIR software and the way it interacts with other programs. Therefor having a configuration option for TrackIR in game is really not needed, probably would need to restart the game to,apply the setting anyway so would be of little use really.

Re: Update to version 50.5a coming on 26th February.
Thanks for that Leadcatcher.
I've just been chatting with someone about this and it is a "fault" with FTNoIR. It seems that even when you do not have the FTNoIR client active the assembly that is referenced by the calling application (TS in this case) still responds when it should really return nothing to indicate it's not active. Consequently TS is getting a constant TIR signal telling it that the camera is tracking and at 0,0,0 and so locking out the mouse look.
So, DTG are exonerated and FTNoIR needs the above workaround or it's implementation fixing

I don't think it's coincidence Matt, seems unlikely since it was pretty stable before it.deltic009 wrote:Personally speaking I've only had one crash and its my fault because I inadvertently dejected most of the loco config contents.smarty2 wrote:Well I've noticed the sim now crashes more regularly after this update!

Looks interesting! But would some kind person provide a quick walkthrough to get FTNIR working with TS2015? I've got FT installed and it seems to track my movements according to its own interface; but I can't get it to do anything in TS (50.5a).digic wrote:It also now works with FaceTrackNoIR for those who do not have the track IR interface.

What order do I start things in? What protocols and settings should I be using?
Thanks muchly!

Set your game protocol to FaceTrack 2.0. Click on the settings button underneath that and tick the box that says dummytrack track IR. Underneath in select interface click hide free track.
You can play with the curves to suit. I start the curve fairly flat so that you don't have to hold your head too still - the view won't move until you have moved your head a reasonable amount.
You can also disable pitch and roll and use only Yaw for side to side viewing which is ok if you do not need to look at the instruments very often.
I have attached my ini file as an example.

Yes I could do with knowing this as well.ttjph wrote:Looks interesting! But would some kind person provide a quick walkthrough to get FTNIR working with TS2015? Ahem... following a further quick test this morning, it would appear that it works fine WHEN I'M IN A CAB VIEW! Not active in 'helicopter' views 2 or 3, for example. That'll teach me to try installing new stuff last thing at night, when I should really be trying to catch up on some sleep...
It needs some fine-tuning, and so far I've disabled roll, inverted pitch and inverted X, but otherwise it mostly seems to work with the defaults.
If anyone would care to share the contents of their .ini file that would be welcome though! I may do so myself once I've had some time to get it set up to my satisfaction - but that could take a while.
Thanks for the pointer anyway - I'm looking forward to trying this out properly!

Re: Update to version 50.5a coming on 26th February.
After doing a back up I allowed the update. Everything seems okay, but I can't get Track IR to work. Previously I'd used JSJ's workaround successfully. Could someone confirm: do I just need to start the Track IR software, click on the TS 2015 profile, and then it should work when Railworks starts? Thanks.

Yes, I'd advise making sure TIR software and games listings are updated. You can just delete JSJ mod file from your Railworks folder. TIR should just work with no "intervention" required now, support is embedded into the game. I just use the default profile, no need to select anything.mojo12012 wrote:After doing a back up I allowed the update. Everything seems okay, but I can't get Track IR to work. Re: Update to version 50.5a coming on 26th February.
Well, Track IR doesn't seem to be working in my set up. The second light doesn't come on when Railworks starts (I presume it should), and the mouse freezes. Of course, the update has nuked JSJ's workaround, so I need to fiddle on with that. Any ideas what might have happened, or where to look? Thanks.
