I have both the JT and DTG versions. I bought the DTG one for convenience more than anything.
Usually I'd keep my opinions about DTG products to myself, I've learnt to adopt the "what will be, will be" attitude.
In comparison to the JT version the DTG one is pretty poor, always expected really...
Some observations:
Nice external model, lazy textures in some places. E.g the exhaust ports are the same colour as the roof even though the've obviously been mapped and shadow baked.
The cab is acceptable, but has its inaccuracies.
Sounds are pretty rubbish. Best thing about them is the startup and idle sounds. When power is applied it sounds similar to the default Turbo with a bit more bass. No turbocharger or heavy sensation of movement.
The horn sounds okay but each tone seems to go on forever! (Pet hate of mine...)
No brake squeal, a pretty standout feature of these units.
Physics are very toy-like, 4% throttle will easily get you to 25mph+ in less than a minute.
The particle system from the exhaust ports seems a bit excessive too, I found the unit makes my system stutter, even though it's a top spec, most recent Alienware jobbie.
While I don't feel I've been robbed of £11.99, I can't help but get the impression it's another rushed release. Or it's been developed by a team with no real interest in railways. I remember proudly showing my Mum models I used to build, only for her to reply with "yes dear, it's a train..." Regardless of how accurate, or not, it looked! I get similar feelings here. My Mum appears to be the DTG QC person!!!
I work as the Creative Director of a design firm. I've often thought what I'd say to my staff if I was presented with something like a DTG release!
Hopefully the community comes up with a fix or two. As I said previous, the model is nice! (AP, I'm looking at you!

That's easily rectified by renaming the 'jt_pax_cough_male1', 'jt_px_ring1' and 'jt_pax_sneeze_male1' .dav files to something different like adding '_bak' at the end of the filename before the extention.
e.g. 'jt_pax_cough_male1_bak.dav'
That's what I did after I spent about 2 minutes in the passenger view when I originally bought it, I had enough of hearing all that - now pure bliss
That is very useful info
Thanks

You could have moved your passenger view to the quiet coach! [joke]

Hi all
I purchased the DTG version to compare with the JT Advanced version and I have a question regarding the power/brake lever. In both cabs (JT is much better IMHO) there are 4 power notches marked and a few more brake notches: in real life, when applying power, is the lever 'notched' or free to be manipulated by the driver? In both companies' versions, power can be applied to very exact percentages (JT 1% and DTG 5%). I'm guessing that due to the number of notches marked in the braking zone that that side would be free roaming.
Thanks

Did they update the dated cab textures or is my cab refurb still needed?

That would probably be worse
It annoys me in real life when the headphone brigade, mobile phone brigade and the pushchair brigade come into the quiet zone and make a noise when there is actually space in the other coaches on the train, really really annoys me does that!

Remember seeing that, the selfish, inconsiderate brigade win again.

And also categorically untrue, especially with regards to why CrossCountry removed the Quiet Zones on Voyagers. The reason is that it wasn't the best use of capacity to have one third of all standard class accommodation on Voyagers designated as a Quiet Zone. It is absolutely not due to staff being sick of resolving passenger conflicts, which was something made up by the newspapers. CrossCountry HSTs still have Coach H designated as the Quiet Coach, so unless HST guards are made of sterner stuff...
First Great Western's First Class Quiet Coach on HSTs is going - or has gone - as part of their refurbishment to increase the amount of standard class accommodation in the face of overcrowding. The Standard Class Quiet Coach remains.
So East Coast, First Great Western, Virgin Trains, Chiltern Railways, c2c, and South West Trains all still keep their Quiet Zones despite the Daily Mail pronouncing it the "End of the Line" for them!
Um, anyway, back on topic to the DTG 220. Can the destinations be set for the AI within the scenario editor as well as in game? I may pick it up for AI traffic if so...

Well, in answer to your 'pushchair brigade' comment, there are only spaces large enough for pushchairs to fit (which are actually intended for wheelchair passengers) in the Quiet coach or in First Class - it doesn't leave many options available.
Bit, we're getting far off topic.

Nice unit apart from the sounds. Handy alternative if you just want to go for a blast (and to have something other than butter for brake pads above 60mph)
Quick question though.
Does the XC Aberdeen to Penzance unit stop for fuel along the way? I noticed I must've used a quarter of a tank going from York to Newcastle. I know I'm going north, and therefore uphill, but the usage did seem a bit excessive.

I read on these the other day apparently their operating range is 1,400 miles before needing more fuel

The Aberdeen to penzance service doesn't stop for fuel anywhere en route, just runs straight through end to end. For example yesterday 221140 did it and the actual full diagram is below:
5A01 04:30 Craigentinny to Dundee distance 74 miles
2A01 06:40 Dundee to Aberdeen distance 71 miles
1V60 08:20 Aberdeen to Penzance distance 804 miles (diversion via Westbury, normally it's 773 miles).
Total mileage 949 miles, so plenty of fuel left.
There is also a northbound equivalent to this that ran this Saturday which is 06:30 off Penzance and then works an Aberdeen to Edinburgh service, so it does more miles in service. Whilst looking it was interesting to not that in total the northbound service is booked station dwell time cumulative to 136 minutes, the most wasteful being Bristol TM at a ridiculous 34 minutes but then it was routed via Westbury also so that won't speed things up much
