Hi.
I would love to download and install the Chiltern Line.
However, like several other routes, the comments on here seem to suggest that it has issues, and means that a straightforward download and install is only the start of getting going on it ?
Can anyone tell me if the necessary adjustments have now been made by the route designer, and can they assure me that it WILL now be a case of "download, install and go", rather than having to tweak this, amend that etc etc ?
Thanks
Derek

Yeah, it always has been that--as long as you have all the required assets/routes already installed.shinymac wrote:and can they assure me that it WILL now be a case of "download, install and go"
If not it's a case of 'download, install; download, install; download, install........ and eventually go'
There's never been much (If any) tweaking needed to get it working, more a case of 'to get it working to suit each persons ideals' needs playing about with---just like any other route, freeware or payware, to some extent.
If you don't have the required routes then you won't have a simple task. That's where the tweaking alluded to in this thread comes from, as folk work out what they DO have that can be substituted with RW Tools.

Like others have stated, if you have all the required DlC, rekins, etc - then it is straight forward. If you don't then you must find, download and install the missing items. when I first started with TS, I too was hesitant to tackle the world of freeware routes. However, I have found, many are as good if not better than the paid content. Take the plunge, you will be glad you did!

HI Guys
OK. Thanks for the info.
I must have misread something, which gave me the impression that even if you HAVE all the required DLC etc, then it STILL had to be tweaked etc ?
I might consider it now.
Cheers

There are a few assets, particularly a track rule, that nobody seems to have but none of them are absolutely essential to the running of the route. The *missing* track rule for example is associated with lofts and roads and not track so has no impact. Sometimes the impression can be given that unless RW Tools reports a route assets as being absolutely 100% installed then the route just won't work, but that isn't the case. It's almost as if generating a 'clean' RW Tools report is more important than playing the game for some!shinymac wrote:gave me the impression that even if you HAVE all the required DLC etc, then it STILL had to be tweaked etc

Really looking forward to this as being itching to recreate the SSE and the one's from the 80's that ran from Marylebone to SoA.
Just going through installation now and installing relevant requirements. Do people have screenshots of the route ? Interested to compare to a few places I have been to. St Andrew's Jnc. for one would be interesting to see, as well as Widney Manor and Henley in Arden for me

I'm so grateful for this route and thank you Photon66.
Although I seem to have all the required 3rd party stuff many (not all) of the points are not rendering their frogs etc and the point motors are still floating.
What am I doing wrong ?
Also (for my benefit) is their any way to get the signal state to show in the 2D map ?
Cheers

John, unfortunately many of the points don't render properly, particularly cross over junctions but a fair number can be *fixed* by splitting the track in the middle of the cross over and then welding the joint.
There's a proper guide, with pictures somewhere in the forums about this, probably in one of the sections for an older version of the game. I'm not near a PC at the moment so can't easily check but I'm sure somebody Will chuck a link in.
Any other points with no frogs etc seem to have been laid over track joints so an extensive working would be needed on those.

Re: Chiltern Mainline - by Photons66
I'm still having major problems with this...
I've still got a lot of missing bridges... gone into world editor, clicked on the milk bottles and it's looking for xml files in a folder called scenery-bridges.
I know there's a lot of bridges folders in various different assets sections and it would be really good to know where TS is trying to find the bridges so I can copy an existing folder to that location and see if it works.
I really want to give this route a go but the trauma of getting it playable is extreme.
I honestly don't know what's wrong with my setup to throw up so many problems.
The only other major think then is willoughbycatesby viaduct file... haven't a clue where that comes from... any ideas of a suitable replace.
On a positive note the bits I've driver (sans bridges) look great...
please help!

This post is worth what you paid for it.
Re: Chiltern Mainline - by Photons66
You need to run the route through the check procedure of RW tools in order to find out which ones are missing. The advantage of this is that you can then replace them with a bridge that you DO have.
