I have emailed Pete asking to reject the file as you did not seek my permission to change anything within the route. If you had changed the marker file for your personal use only then there would be no problem.

Sorry if that seems heavy-handed but it's a courteous detail that I feel should not have been left out.

Fair enough... Photon66! No grief intended but if you feel I've disrespected you by upping the file I apologize .... I'm Sorry!

But I fail to see why Deltic009 and rflecther72 needed to get involved with their comments, this is between Photon66 and myself, I was only trying to help the community and not tread on anyone's toes....!

I think perhaps the reason why members have agreed with Dave's stance on this is the fact that you have chosen to make it public through these forums. The rules on changing and uploading the work of others without the necessary permissions are clearly set out in the forum guidelines and are fundamentally enshrined in the basis of copyright law. So much grief has occurred on these forums over the years through people not respecting those principles. Hope you understand why this is important to people.

Okay Ash.... many thanks for your polite explanation.

I can see I'm on the wrong side of the R&Rs for the forum without realizing it, for which I have apologized to Photon66 in a PM and I do the same to the forum administrators ... Sorry to all concerned!

But if I may say Ash.... grief also occurs when members like myself make an honest mistake and are ignominious withered for it by their equals, at least you took the polite route to sorting this issue out.

Thanks again

Matter resolved, permissions granted, marker files uploaded (or not, I'll leave that up to milepost326)

:)

I am sorry if my comment seemed impolite, it certainly wasn't intended as such, merely an expression of solidarity/sympathy with Photons66's position. The point from which I am coming from (and I suspect Matt as well) is that having created content freely myself, it is somewhat peeving to say the least to subsequently see it appear elsewhere and/or in some other form without any notice and/or acknowledgement of it's origin.

I am quite sure there was no underhand intention in this instance but the first rule in anything such as this is to ask permission first. 9 times out of 10 the author will readily agree and at the end of the day if nowt else it is common courtesy.

You mention the 'Community' aspect of such work and that is very important, but the very nature of that Community is gradually being undermined by instances such as this, because people eventually get fed up of such and stop sharing/creating therefore. As Ash has said, freeware is still covered by copyright laws and this is a vital consideration.

Once again I am sorry if my reply seems on the heavy side, but this is a situation I come across over and over again. Indeed other stuff has been recently removed from UKTS (not my work I will add) because people have not asked first before doing, and therefore the 'Community' has then lost out once again and through no fault of the author.

Regards,

Richard

EDIT: All sorted I see :) .

I can see that this was an honest mistake and, from what I've seen since, it's all now been resolved! Nice to see a happy outcome for all.

Hi, don't think I was just flaming your post, Richard is correct that I was speaking as a creator of bits and bobs available here and elsewhere and the frustrations associated with unrecognised work carried out without the courtesy of a short query.

I'm glad it is.sorted out, just a salient reminder not to go too far before a quick pause for thought, I have no doubt that there was no malicious intent on your part.

I tried making a Kidderminster to London Chiltern scenario which did a strange reversing maneuver at Jewellery Quarter.

There is a break in the tracks there, I haven't gone into the editor to try and fix it, I am not proficient in the art of route creating sadly or editing! In the past when I have done something similar it ends up putting a break further along.

Hi, had a look in the editor and there is a red loop over the track at that point - don't know why, but couldn't shift it!
