TS 2015 very regular graphics stutter
So I have an interesting graphics issue that I've not come across before. I'm not quite sure what's changed but when I run TS2015 now I get a very regular 'spike' or 'beat' in the framerate. Regular as clockwork - literally - every second it drops a single frame then runs smoothly at 60fps, then drops a frame, then runs smoothly.
Every track, every train, irrespective of graphics settings or window size, right down to minimal detail at 800x600
It's like the game is doing something once a second that is causing it drop a single render frame.
The result is nauseating.
I've tried two different graphics cards, different sound cards (my old SB X-fi used to cause this in another game, but it's not that). Tried disconnecting monitors, removing cards so I'm just running a single card - literally nothing I've done alters it.
I've tried locking the framerate at 30fps and 60fps - still does it but at 30fps it drops two frames so the result is even more jarring.
Anyone else seen this? Or have any ideas what might be the cause?

Re: TS 2015 very regular graphics stutter
I've just recently upgraded my CPU and found that it's helped quite a bit with this stutter (It doesn't remove it entirely but it does make the stutters end quicker and less regular).
I went from a i7 950 to a i7 4790k.

Re: TS 2015 very regular graphics stutter
Well this is just plain old embarassing.
As I sat watching it today, the thought occurred to me "this is incredibly regular - it's exactly once per second"
At which point I started kicking myself.
A week ago, coinciding with my new graphics card and monitors, I'd added a function to one of my scripts that performed 'background' tasks once a second on a particular train.
Turns out whenever that train exists in a route - ANY route - there was an overflow loop inside the 'background task' that caused a function to run 240 times instead of once.
Every time the 'background process' kicked off - exactly once a second - that loop ran 240 times and dragged the game to it's knees.
All fixed now. Feel free to jeer.

It is a problem since the upgrade to TS2015 a number of people are having this problem including myself.

Re: TS 2015 very regular graphics stutter
I've virtually eliminated stuttering by running at a res of 3360x2100 (which these new Nvidia drivers allow) and only having FXAA activated. Even WCMLoS runs beautifully now.

How are you doing that as it is more than most Monitors will allow?smarty2 wrote:I've virtually eliminated stuttering by running at a res of 3360x2100 (which these new Nvidia drivers allow) and only having FXAA activated. Even WCMLoS runs beautifully now.

There is an option in the latest Nvidia drivers for DSR, dynamic super resolution or something, it's from that.david1 wrote:smarty2 wrote:I've virtually eliminated stuttering by running at a res of 3360x2100 (which these new Nvidia drivers allow)How are you doing that as it is more than most Monitors will allow?smarty2 wrote:I've virtually eliminated stuttering by running at a res of 3360x2100 (which these new Nvidia drivers allow) and only having FXAA activated. It looks absolutely superb and shows how this simulator could look if the core game handled SSAA differently.deltic009 wrote:There is an option in the latest Nvidia drivers for DSR, dynamic super resolution or something, it's from that.david1 wrote:smarty2 wrote:I've virtually eliminated stuttering by running at a res of 3360x2100 (which these new Nvidia drivers allow)How are you doing that as it is more than most Monitors will allow?smarty2 wrote:I've virtually eliminated stuttering by running at a res of 3360x2100 (which these new Nvidia drivers allow) and only having FXAA activated. Re: TS 2015 very regular graphics stutter
I'd like to try this but I have no idea of where to find the nVidea control panel.
I've looked in c/program files/nvidea corp. and seen the control panel client
but cannot see any sign of DSR?

HiYa Dave, I think you may have the standard Nvidia drivers installed like me because I don't have it in my control panel either, you need to install the gaming drivers from the site if my memory is correct .

If the correct nVidia drivers are installed (the latest are 344,65 and can be seen in the device manager) right clicking anywhere on the desktop will show NVidia Control Panel - click that - it will open - and then from the upper left choose "Manage 3 D settings" and in GLOBAL settings (ONLY) you can set your DSR level up to 4.0 - set as many as you like - your monitor may flash black but the software is just checking if your monitor can handle the higher resolutions.. Press apply and you are done. (DSR = NVidia's take on downsampling)
You then need to choose the program settings tab and just make sure that the TS2015 profile is there.
If you are happy - apply as necessary and exit.
Next time you open TS2015 (must be in full screen) in SETTINGS the new settings can be chosen and applied to TS2015 after a restart. Note text in TS2015 may be much smaller!

Re: TS 2015 very regular graphics stutter
Thanks Antony and Peter.
I did see 3D settings but didn't think that would apply to me.
But think I'll try this tomorrow after a sleep

Re: TS 2015 very regular graphics stutter
OK. I couldn't resist.
Yes, it is there with a right click - excellent - saves a bit of searching.
But my DSR line just says 'OFF'.
When I click the down arrow, the only option is 'OFF'.

Dave
There is a mouse setting that is stopping you getting the DSR options. From other posts
There may also be issues with the mouse pointer when running DSR - it gets to be huge if anyone has a fix let me know.
TS2015 may take longer to load as it is now setting different resolution parameters to before and that takes time.

.You need to disable the Windows Mouse Option "Automatically move pointer to the default button in a dialog box" under Mouse in Control Panel
