I wrote earlier, while recounting the failure of one of my datasets, previously trouble-free, to even get past the first black loading screen:-
I absolutely take Gary's point that

Assets and contents aren't being revised though, the core of the game is the patched part so no matter what combination of assets and contents you use you'll get the same result.

Which should make my experience here impossible. :-?

I'd be grateful for any thoughts any of you may have. It's worth saying that my 'England' data set is large: the Assets file is 169GB, the Content file is 26 GB, and 230 Routes are included. Has the patch reduced some key limit? What other characteristics of several different data sets, all previously acceptable to TS2015, could cause TS2015 to fail even before the first white (DTG logo) screen?
I've now gone back to a backed-up copy from late September, i.e. before TS2015. That doesn't load either - and it's smaller than its later cousins. Hmm...

Think I'll take a few days off in the real world, and see what drifts into my mind...

KInd regards,

John M

PS And, yes, I took my own advice and ran an Error Check under Properties. No faults whatsoever, not even an Index error...

Unfortunately we don't get much in the way of *helpful* error messages when things go awry, but as it only takes a single dodgy file to break the whole thing the size difference here may help.
The smaller version doesn't load, so that could indicate that the fault lies in one of those files. Can you try a set with only the *extras* installed?
If that loaded, it would point the finger at something in the base content, which is common to both of the installs.

You say "if/when DTH issue a patch for this".

If? You mean there's doubt?

PS I'm not knocking community fix's here, to be clear, it's just that I'm pretty much an average user with no inclination for fiddling around in the bowels of the programme.

The patch is as easy as loading a reskin - you really should look into it..

As someone has already mentioned, it seems strange when you opt out of the beta which was 32 odd mb big and then it downloads the update of 266 odd mb.

Check you have one in this folder tree:
railworks\Content\Routes\00000001-0000-0000-0000-000000000000\Networks

Yep, the file is where it should be (5,515kb)

Just run mine and all was well?

Try removing the route folder (and maybe the scenery one) for the route and do a verify - you never know?

I have been having a problem with one out of seven instances of my Assets/Content files. After the introduction of 48.9, the game refused to load with this data set. It had worked just fine immediately before; all my other instances - none containing as many Assets or Routes as this one - continued to work. As this may be helpful to others, I thought I'd record my (somewhat plodding) solution.

On 13th Nov, Gary wrote:-

If that loaded, it would point the finger at something in the base content, which is common to both of the installs.
A fortnight later, after a very relaxing break in Oman - no railways yet, but planning a high-speed link to the UAE - I've finally solved my problem...

I noticed that my 'England' Content set - the one that I'd worried about - loaded just fine with a freshly verified RSC/DTG base set of Assets. (So the number of routes (230 plus) wasn't the problem...)

I also found that the 'England' Assets would not load with a freshly verified RSC/DTG Content set. Splitting the 'England' assets in half (folders A to M and N to Z) didn't work either. Not a size issue, then...

So I started rebuilding my Assets, using a verified default set of RSC/DTG Assets as its base, and added in my 'England' assets, folder by folder, making sure not to overwrite anything. After each increment, I checked that Railworks would still load. Which it did... Hoorah! :D

I conclude that Gary was, as ever, spot on. Some Asset file(s) had become corrupt; 48.9 had been sensitive to this corruption in a way that its predecessors were not.

So... Onwards!

Kind regards, and thanks for good advice from a number of sources...

Yeah, every now and then I get lucky like that

The files may not have been corrupted as such, it's been mooted before that after an upgrade some small loophole that allowed stuff to work in an earlier version becomes closed as part of the improvement, making older files (that now try and do something they shouldn't) a problem.

Could this have anything to do with the 'Brambles' environment texture going AWOL from the Liverpool-Manchester route when they appear in others. Even ensuring the Kuji folders and three routes where they do appear are clicked into the editor fail to solve it?
