Just curious, I see on the dash of this loco there is a small sticker which states "Keep your feet off" (the desk/dashboard), but I assume that this loco would be fitted with a Driver's Vigilance Device (ie, interval alarm cancelled out by deadman footpedal). Would this be right? (I realise that this isn't featured in game if so).

Also, I would like to know what would be the speed limit for this loco when hauling, for instance, two dozen container wagons on a mainline (are there still "classes" of freight, or is that phased out now?) Some scenarios are helpful and inform you of any speed limit with regard to your type of train, but not always!

In answer to your first question, you're right - a driver should not have his feet on the dashboard as he needs to be alert for the DVD. However with the amount of standing around they do whilst working, being in an engineering possession or held in the loop etc, it's common to see a driver with his feet up on the dash. I don't recall seeing a sticker in a 66 can in real life, although we have no idea which 66 cab DTG got reference material from!

Secondly, I believe the speed limit is 60mph Max, I could be wrong though. Generally 66's are geared for 75mph Max speed but the heavy haul 66/6 sub class has been geared for 60mph running to help with heavier trains.

Yes there are still different classes for freight, container trains usually run as Class 4 - 75mph max.

Yes, tractive effort was the driving force (I couldn't resist) behind the gearing and lower top speed, I've had a cab ride in a Freightliner Class 66 from Lawley Street to Crewe and I remember chuckling at the sticker when I saw it.

Thanks for replies all. I've just completed "Freightliner to Stratford" on GEML and got upto 70MPH in one spot. Got there safely and got a green tick though, which is what I shall tell the investigation. And I want a union rep...

I remember touring a rather hilly part of New Zealand in a backpacker bus with an automatic gearbox; the driver had his left leg up on the dash for long stretches of twisty mountain climbing...

The Class of the train indicates the Speed it is Timed to run at.
A Class 4 train must be formed of wagons and a loco that can travel at least 75mph - otherwise the train will be timed at Class 6 and 60 Mph.
