Static Scenery Vehicles

I have just downloaded the two static goods vehicles that Buckeye has made available, which look very good. I used this type of static vehicle in MSTS where they could be added to activities, this latest version for RW comes as a scenery add-on item which can be added by a route builder to a route, this as a scenario builder give gives me reason for concern.
If the static had come as an item on the "People Animal Vehicle" button they could be used at the time the scenario was being compiled and allowing the scenario builder the choice of vehicles he wishes to use, to get the correct atmosphere where as if they are added to the route as a scenery item they are then a permanent item and takes away the choice of selecting stock for a given period of time it could also limit the movements of AI vehicles.
I like Joseph's statics and the reasoning behind them, it is only the thought of them being used as scenery items that worry me.
I hope this makes sense.

It does make sense, you want to be able to place them on a per scenario basis rather than have them in the same place on every scenario, which should be doable if the creator set them as "Valid in scenario" in the blueprint.
If not, perhaps a message to ask him to.

Scenery items can also be scenario specific; have you actually tried placing one in a scenario?

Have not tried that yet, only looked at "Rolling Stock" and "People Animals Vehicles* in Scenario Editor which I use in scenarios, I wish that there were more people, vehicles etc available there.

In that case, and with the greatest of respect, you can't say that these static wagons
can't be used at scenario level. To do so without even the most cursory of investigations is rather unfair to the creator.

It's a case of 'six of one, half a dozen of the other' here;
as supplied, the static vans do seem to be just route objects but following Dave's advice of editing the .bin file (<ValidInScenarios d:type="cDeltaString">eFalse</ValidInScenarios> becomes <ValidInScenarios d:type="cDeltaString">eTrue</ValidInScenarios>) they will show up as a scenario specific scenery item, with the caveat that it seems that the Provider/Product pair needs to be ticked in the 'Route Editor' as well as in the 'Scenario Editor'
Incidentally, they do come under the People/Animals/Vehicles section (or at least the standard vans do, as this is the one I've downloaded)

For those not comfortable with editing .bin files, RW_Tools allows you to select any scenery items in the Edit Assets screen and make it 'Usable in scenarios' by clicking the Edit Asset/Use in Scenarios menu item.
I have not tried these wagons, but ones I have used in the past tend to be very difficult to locate on tracks accurately as they don't lock to track automatically?

These, or at least the rake I tried, placed very easily Mike--that was on a dead straight bit of track though. Fine adjustment of the positioning was pretty easy; holding the 'shift' key down whilst moving the stock kept it nice and smooth.

Better perhaps to set these up as rolling stock items, which is how it was done with previous low poly wagons.

I agree with Longbow, they were very easy to use, look great too I use them all the time although I have problems with missing textures on the 16t mineral wagons now

How strange - me too! I thought it was just something in my installation but it's odd that someone else has exactly the same problem.
