Hello John

My grammar has caused confusion. There is only one set of Collett's available from Making Tracks.

Are you waiting for the 12 hours to lapse, or have you raised a support ticket with Making Tracks?

Hello Holzroller

Amazed the 6w Stoves made it. Was not sure about P3's. Hopefully you are the fount of knowledge I require on the subject. If you are familiar with my other sets for the Southern / GWR and LNER, are there any vehicles in those that made it to blue / Departmental. Mainly the restaurant stuff I suppose. Thanks in advance.

Hi Gordon,
thanks for reminding me.
I had sent an EMail c/w with jpegs to MT, but up to now no response. So in lieu of anything else I could do, did as you suggested, try the DL link again. After all if it didn't work, I was no worse of.
It did work and I've now got both products. As a matter of academic interest would appreciate knowing what went wrong and the reasons for it. Until I get some explanation will not be visiting that particular vendor in a hurry for awhile.

Once more thanks for the interest and offers of help.

@ Gordon. Not a fount maybe, but I have 40 years worth of magazines and a couple hundred or so railway books, plus a few thousand slides from the 80's on, and of course a few dvd's. Trouble is trying to find something rare in that lot. That I know of Stanier brakes ended up in Blue/Grey, Blue, Blue Gangways removed, olive green, Departmental black. As far as is known the stoves never lost their gangways. Add the original inter-city style to the inspection saloon. Not a lot of Gresley stuff made it into the blue era as far as I know, mostly BG's and CCT's plus the buffet. I have a nice picture of a Gresley sleeper first in Blue/Grey in a book E1211E. Don't have a lot of time to dig at the moment, maybe at the weekend. We had some ex LMS departmentals up in Aberdeen, apart from the ex GUV but they were ex p2 and very heavily modified into boiler vans. They were parked out of use at Ferryhill by the time I joined the railway.

Hello Gordon,

Quite a few pre-nationalisation designs made it into the blue/grey era.

LMS wise, I have seen photos of PIII BTK's in blue/grey operating on Woodhead line passenger workings in the late 60's. Examples of the 12-wheel sleeping cars, possibly both classes also were painted thus, and these plus some PIII design day coaches were wired for ETH to enable then to operate with the then new AC electrics. Full brakes made it into blue'grey (M31024M appears in the 1978 RCTS stock book), many more into blue, with/without gangways and also fitted out for newspaper traffic too. Some Stove R's made it into blue, as did some of the GUV's and the CCT vans too.

As for GWR stock, Collett and Hawksworth BG's gained blue, some losing their gangways. The later diagram Siphon G vans operated until the mid-80's, mostly adapted for newspaper traffic (hint hint).

LNER buffets gained blue/grey and lasted until the late 70's, as did the two Thompson design 1948 Flying Scotsman buffets (1705E/1706E). The sleeper mentioned above is a new one on me. NPCCS stock included bogie pigeon vans and numerous BGs, plus 3 axle 'Stoves' and 2 axle CCT vans.

And SR wise, I only think NPCCS stock made it into blue, many vans lasted into the mid-80's.

And for all of the above0 of course, the engineers ensured many more survived in various roles.

Hope this helps,
Richard

Quite a few inspection saloons made it into Blue/Grey as well as a variety of 1990s liveries http://departmentals.com/photos/tags/inspection departmentals.com might be useful for researching other items of stock that were still in use.

According to the R Essery book the BTK's in Blue/Grey were porthole stock built post 1947 and were the only LMS 'day' stock to receive that livery.

One of our LMS Carriage Association members Mick Bond did an article on this subject in our newsletter a while back, I don't think any SRs were mentioned but he listed about 90 passenger carrying coaches that made it to blue/grey, the LNER had the biggest variety of types. If anyone is really interested I'm happy to send as a .doc if you pm me :D

Some interesting observations here. Remember reading that some BR built porthole P3's were long lived. Don't want to stray outside the Blue era at the moment. I'll consider some newer stock later.

Dave W: I would be immensely interested in that article. I'll send a PM.

There should be some scenarios for the P3 extras appearing soon. Sean53 is on the case, and maybe someone else too.

That is good news Gordon, and btw I am very pleased with the P3 extras set. Very well done! I really like Express Parcels trains, they have some special feel about them as far as I am concerned. The set opens a lot of new possibilities now in my favorite period of the 1950's/60's.

Cheers

Hi Jos

Which route would you like a parcel scenario on. Save me having to choose

Looking for some help on the formation of the 10pm Stranraer-Euston Northern Irishman aka "The Paddy" in the 50s/60s. . From what I know so far it could be up to load 15. Also did it take 3 hours 19 to do the run. If anyone has the WT it would help

Hi Sean

Just read this.
DLC routes, I would say WLOS/Port Road for sure and perhaps Somerset & Dorset.
Others that I can think of right now are Settle & Carlisle, the jetgriff version that is, the DLC version being too modern and Laneshaw bridge.

Hope this helps. I see from you last post that you already seem to work on a scenario for the WLOS 8)

Hi Sean,

Thanks to the files in the Yahoo! Group ‘BR loco-hauled coaching stock 1948-97’ I have been able to gather some info on the formation of the 10.0 pm Stranraer-Euston.

In winter 1960-1961 11 vehicles:
BCK (ex-LMS), SLSTP (Mk1), SLF (ex-LMS), SLF (ex-LMS), SK (ex-LMS), SK (ex-LMS), BSK (Mk1), BG, BG,
BG (to Manchester), PMV (to Newcastle).

In winter 1964-1965 (last year of the Port Road) 10 vehicles :
BSK (Mk1), SLCT (Mk1), SLCT (Mk1), SK (Mk1), BCK (Mk1), BG, BG, BG, BG (to Manchester), PMV (to Newcastle).

I presume extra coaches were added during the summer timetable.

Thanks Marcus. That's a useful insite. As I'm doing a summer scenario I'll add an extra sleeper or two + an extra SK or CK. To add interest on the long run I've added a few drop offs along the way. Also changed the schedule for a slightly faster run :) Thanks again
