If this is true to life I need my ears seeing to.

That article does also state:
All trips on the day were undertaken at a maximum of 25mph

Thanks also go to D123, who ran nicely (though with not very much clag…).
Still surprised that the sounds are a little *muted*?

Having already posted a few impressions about the model of this re-release I might as well do the same for the physics and drivability now that I've had a proper run with it.

I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm guessing that actual real-life experience of the class is rather thin on the ground and I'm no exception but, for me, it feels right. There's some nice lag on both the power and brakes. The controls apply fluidly and can be finely adjusted. The various sways and lurches depicted in the cab are nicely judged. The speedometer is a bit off in the lower speed ranges, but its right side and not a huge discrepancy. The power handle grip blocks the view of the speedometers 25-40 range when power is off but the layout is such that I'm not sure there's much could done be to adjust the camera position.

All of which makes for a nice driving experience. I'll be driving this again.

Trying to swap the 45 into a Riviera scenario, but can't find / select in RW_Tools :-(

Suspect it's related to .ap file format. Have supposedly unpacked the Class_45Pack01, but it hasn't need added to my index.csv (despite trying "Add to list") and can't be found via the scenario editor...

Any tips much appreciated

Make sure the extracted files are 'read & write'. If you use an up to date version of RWTools to do the extraction it will do that for you.

Have you navigated to the actual folder in explorer to see what's up? It should reside under Assets\DTG\..... (I'm leaving blinks because I don't actually own it). The ap file should be extracted to the folder in which it resides, but by default the usual zip extractors will default to the folder the ap sits in \filenameofapfile - for example the Class 52 ap sits in Assets\RSC\Class52Pack01\ but by default will be set to extract to Assets\RSC\Class52Pack01\filenameofapfile and if it did go there then all the filenames in the config files would be all screwed up.

As Andy has already said;
AndyUK wrote:Make sure the extracted files are 'read & write'
so the question that begs the answer is "how did you extract it?"

RW Tools will set the attributes for you, any other archive management software will need a wee bit more work from you. The files have to be read/write to enable RW Tools to see and manipulate them, until that's done they're 'invisible'.

A Peak under power will make a tremendous amount of noise.... Engine, exhaust note, screaming turbos, the legendary fan... That's why people like Martin and i loved them. 45108 is a fine example, this model is not.

Once we have better sounds then the rest I'm sure is sortable, the model actually looks alright and I think the physics seem pretty good too...
If AP release a pro pack for this loco then I'd purchase it but with the rubbish default sounds it has at the moment, I'm not interested, and for those saying that it's probably accurate for a silenced 45 peak, if your happy driving it in ts2015 sounding like it currently does then good on you but for me a major point of having old locos like this released for this sim is to experience the noise!!

I actually like the 45, sounds and all.

It's quiet in the cab (which the AP Pro packs also are), but stand on the platform as it pulls away and the rumbling Sulzer burble sounds certainly sound ok to me...

I'm interested in the reasons for the reactions to this release, so a question (or three):

If you don't have it how do you know the default sounds are rubbish?

Are the sounds in this re-released pack worse than those in any of the earlier releases?---obviously this can only be properly answered by those who have both (or all three, or a combination).

Is this pack a definite no-no for those who missed the earlier releases, ignoring how *bad* the sounds may be?

Nothing wrong with the engine sounds, they are a bit muted but just turn your volume up and they are reasonably good. The only thing I don't like about the engine sound is the join in the sound loop which could of been a bit better which I know is quite hard to do as I use to muck round with sounds in another life on a Commodore Amiga trying to get smooth joins in sound loops. I well report back later on the difference between the 2 45 sounds as I have both versions.

I have tried the other 45 and it sounds fairly quite as well. I did notice that you cannot hear the join in the sound loop like the DTG one. I watched some Class 45 videos on Youtube and they were reasonably quite, nothing like the Class 52 or Hymek. So overall which sounds better well really too close too call. The DTG one has some aspects of its sound that is good and so does the other one.

The 45 has indeed unpacked as read only...

I used RW Tools to unpack, but couldn't see a read / write option. Have installed latest version 6.15, but still can see an option to make unpacked .ap archives read / write???

ETA - got it...! Read / write under options

Can now swap the Peak for the 31 on the AP38 7B35 freight :-)

Morning everyone,

If the sounds aren't too 'throaty', wouldn't it be possible to adapt the Class 47 sounds to use with the Peak?. The two locos do sound very close to each other in most respects, horn excepted...

Very Best Wishes,
Bob.
