High Frame Rates in Known Sluggish Areas

Post by 37114 »

Greetings,

I was just wondering if anyone does experience good frame rates within scenarios on locations that for most of us are usually poor (from what can be gathered from peoples comments on here at least!). Such as Victoria and Clapham Junction on London to Brighton or Liverpool Street and Stratford on GEML. I typically get 15fps in these areas and my machines certainly is no slouch although of course it could be quicker. Does anyone get a smooth 24fps or above and if so what are your specs?

I was running APs Class 321 on the London Ipswich route and noticed it doesn't run smooth in places but still getting fps in the low 30s. On the Cajon Pass route with sparse scenery I can get over 60 fps. Next time I run the London Ipswich I well take more notice of the fps.

On London Ipswich route, leaving London I get framerates averaging around 35FPS. That is usually my lowest in any route nowadays.

Yesterday however I had noticable stuttering and 15FPS entering Duesseldorf in a scenario which features a lot of AI! I was shocked! However, the realistic amount of AI trains made up for it.

I have all settings on max, except for AA which is somewhere in the middle between none and max.

Cheers,

Is that 15fps on fraps or using shft z.. If its the latter your probably getting less than 15 its just that the sim fps counter doesnt show any lower..

My lowest frame rates are on the London-Ipswich route. There my lowest get into the high 30's or low 40's. On MOST routes I am well over 100 - usually 125-135. On busier routes, I will be in the 80's. If you need details to my computer, just ask and I'll supply them. Hope this helps your quest for information.

Yes please do supply. I was convinced that kind of performance wasn't possible.

It's quite possible given a PC with a decent spec and the AA and other graphics settings turned down far enough. In this case details of someone's hardware are pretty meaningless without also knowing how they've configured the options in TS2014.

FWIW I find that limiting the frame rate to 30 fps gives a smoother experience than leaving it unlimited.

P.S. For comparison purposes it's also helpful to give the frame rate at a particular point in a specific scenario.

OK - ALL of my settings are MAXED OUT; (Highest Detail is what TS calls it; 1680X1050, Full Screen.

Intel Core i7-4770K CPU
Asus Z87-PRO LGA 1150 Mother Board
EVGA GeForce GTX 4GB Video Card
Seagate 1TB Hard Drive
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

That's it, and the frame rates are as I indicated earlier in my previous post. Just the GEML London-Ipswich route; and that truly isn't bad when you come to think of it. Before I upgraded (new computer) in March, I would get max 28 fps; usual 15-18 fps, and as low as 10-12 fps. At that time I knew I had to bite the bullet! Good luck.

Your old systems performance is similar to what I'm getting at the moment. My motherboard is on it's way out so I'm being forced to upgrade. Glad to hear you're getting better performance :D
