Re: Hex for WCMLOS
I think we all agree that no matter if we call them Hex numbers, alpha-numeric descriptors, GUIDs or just plain old Complicated Random Arbitrarily Produced folder *names*, it causes confusion for many.
I hope I'm not the only one curious so Martin, why do you need to know the route GUID?

Re: Hex for WCMLOS
Simple, to extract the ap file so it shows in RWTools, I went through each route looking in the route description folders, just my luck it didn't have the html file in there!
I've even got route folders that have only scenario folders in them? It's all very confusing to an old duffer like me!

Why do you need it to show in RW Tools? You don't need to extract the whole of the .ap contents to just see the route listed in RW Tools - extracting RouteProperties.xml alone will do that, and RW Tools can do that for you.smarty2 wrote:Simple, to extract the ap file so it shows in RWTools, I went through each route looking in the route description folders, just my luck it didn't have the html file in there!![]()
That means that something has installed scenarios for a route that you don't have - some RSC/DTG and third party installers do that.smarty2 wrote:I've even got route folders that have only scenario folders in them? It's all very confusing to an old duffer like me!

But to do that you need to know where to find the .ap archive, hence the initial question of "what's the Hex number for the route?"alanch wrote:You don't need to extract the whole of the .ap contents to just see the route listed in RW Tools - extracting RouteProperties.xml alone will do that, and RW Tools can do that for you.
That's grand, I wasn't being judgemental (or wasn't meaning to be), just checking that you didn't have some other problem. Plus, depending on what you were wanting to do, there may be simpler ways of finding the GUID.smarty2 wrote:Wanted to edit a scenario.gptech wrote:so, no real reason or problems with the route.smarty2 wrote:to extract the ap file so it shows in RWTools

You did a bit!
I wonder if Mike could find a way of getting his tools to read ap files to display the contents?

You are right, alpha-numeric/hex identifiers or whatever people want to call them are gibberish in any language!gptech wrote:.....and an alpha-numerical identifier is the same, no matter what language the user speaks.

They are not gibberish in machine language, and primarily they are designed to be read by machines - your computer.davejc64 wrote:You are right, alpha-numeric/hex identifiers or whatever people want to call them are gibberish in any language!gptech wrote:.....and an alpha-numerical identifier is the same, no matter what language the user speaks.

Of course joking is allowed. I was just being ironic, which I hope is also allowed.davejc64 wrote:I was joking, or is that not allowed?alanch wrote: They are not gibberish in machine language, and primarily they are designed to be read by machines - your computer.

Anybody know any ironic jokes?
He did say he'd build something in to extract the RouteProperties files as a 'one shot' exercise, which would be handy for many.smarty2 wrote: I wonder if Mike could find a way of getting his tools to read ap files to display the contents?

Re: Hex for WCMLOS
If you go to Files/Open .ap file manager in RW_Tools, clicking on any .ap file will give you the full directory of its contents.smarty2 wrote:You did a bit!I wonder if Mike could find a way of getting his tools to read ap files to display the contents?
You can use this program to extract any individual file from the .ap (probably still need to make it read/write though to use it).
