I was curious about this so actually timed mine. The first start up (with Steam was already up and running) took 4min 35 secs!! I closed it down and started again and it took 40 secs. I then left it for 30 mins or so and tried again and got 35 secs. All of these timings were done with Steam already up and running and were timed from clicking on desktop shortcut to the TS menu appearing (pressing button to bypass starting video).

I do have a large install (165GB) and have noticed my PC in general wasn't particularly fast, I just put it down to the fact it hasn't been rebuilt for over 3 years and probably has a lot of rubbish on it although I do try and clear things out and keep on top of regular maintenance. I also suspect Norton 360 isn't helping things at it seems to be checking everything. I also have 12 Workshop scenarios installed and given I've hammered my broadband connection recently (PC, PS3 & PS4) and I suspect Sky might be throttling the account which might contributing to the loading times (I think workshop item are sync'ed during startup)

I'll give CHKDSK a try just to check things out but I've just got used to it as it only happens the first time I load TS up.

Are you in the habit of clearing the game cache regularly Andrew?

No, only when I install something and I haven't added anything for a couple of weeks now.

Hi all,
Just timed my start up, from pressing the TS 2014 icon on my desktop it took 50secs to load to the drive screen and a further 35secs to load ECML London to Ipswich scenario Braintree Branch and that includes loading Steam as well in offline mode.
This is another thing that I have noticed since putting TS on its own Hdd that load times are quicker.

My game size I suppose is quite small compared to some forum members (about 53Gb).
Regards,
Pete.

I've just installed some branding packs and did a verify cache. TS was up and running in 1 min 55 secs. The only curious thing I noticed was the readme said to delete a couple of blueprint files but when I checked, they didn't exist.

Out of curiosity I'm going to try a shut down and restart and see what happens then.

If the Blueprint.pak files don't exist that suggests the cache has indeed been cleared; the .pak files are what constitute the cache.

That's what I thought but I hadn't instigated one. I've done some more tests, following a PC reboot it took 5 mins 18 sec (over 3 mins for the loading screen to appear), quit and restart took 28 secs. I then did a verify cache which took 3 mins 31 secs and another quit and restart took 33 secs. Apart from the 3 mins for the loading screen to appear, the other longest period is 'Updating Scenario Database'.

I do think it's PC related, the drive isn't fragmented as Norton does that automatically and when I checked Windows said it was OK. I'll do a CHKDSK just to be sure but given it takes ages for the PC to boot up anyway (despite clearing out the startup folder) I think a complete wipe and fresh rebuild might be in order but that's a big job.

So, I have this issue too, taking an absolute eternity. Unless it's windows 8 related, must be the game as I'm not having difficulty with anything else at all.

If it's JUST started then it can't be due to the update released a week or two ago, unless you've only just allowed the update to take place.
No program starts playing silly so-and-sos on a whim; something has to have changed so think hard about any Windows updates, any other automated program updates to see if they have a bearing.

I agree with Gary but this is a good case for verifying the cache so that you can eliminate any corruption within TS2014 itself (unless caused by a 3rd party add-on).

When I had this it was due to combination of some corrupted assets which I didn't manage to find (so only a complete re-install would fix it for me...), and a workshop route which for some reason caused issues.

Long winded approach, but have any of those with the 'sudden long loading times' tried installing a separate, Steam DLC ony copy of the game and timing that?
This is all RSC would be willing to support and would help determine whether the *fault* lies with the core software or with an as yet unknown 3rd party asset or combination of assets.
