Thanks again fro your help G!!gptech wrote:Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the ..\\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\data\videos\2013_startup.ogv file and rename it by adding .default to the end (or anything else that makes sense to you) and in the ..\\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\data\videos\ folder create a new, blank text document. Rename this blank document to 2013_startup.ogv (make sure you don't leave the .txt extension on there, as has happened to some who had known file extensions hidden) and you'll not see the video again until there's an update or you verify the games files.
I'd suggest copying your new 0 byte 2013_startup.ogv file and renaming this copy by adding something like .blank to the end so if you find it gets over-written it's very easy to revert back.

Re: Core PAtch this afternoon
Going back to jimmy's issue....
As Dave said earlier, bit late now to start re-configuring, your only option really is to revert back from a backup copy, if you have one; or failing that, if your Steam installation is in a protected area, going back to a *working* state using Windows Restore. Quick way to check is to right click the Railworks folder, choose 'Properties' and then click the 'Previous Versions' tab. If you have a restore point containing the pre-update files it'll show there.
EDIT: You're welcome Trav, I have that little snippet in a text file of 'useful stuff' so wasn't a big job to copy and paste
I'm not a fan at all of having programs start up automatically when the PC boots. Besides taking resources away from loading the OS it does allow for such 'stealth' updates.jimmyshand wrote:an auto update is unavoidable as soon as I turn on my PC.

No you don't, IIRC as long as Steam has been online and logged in as you at least once on your machine previously you can go offline without going online.jimmyshand wrote:You need to go online in order to turn Steam offline! As soon as you go online to turn it offline
Just tested it and it works how I thought.
Restart PC, Disconnect, start steam and am presented with the option of starting in offline mode, games all run fine (except any multiplayer or server oriented games obviously)

If you put a 'Steam' icon on to the task bar and start it from there you get an option to either start On or Off line - choose off and then minimise the screen and start TS2014. I have a notification icon show in the bottom right corner to show Steam is active.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind for future updates! Major sense of humour failure last night. Mrs Jimmy and kids were all out for the evening so I planned a marathon session. After firing up the sim the update started, then I found TrackIR wouldn't work so I spent 45 minutes fiddling with that before I tracked down through other forums that it was the update that broke it. Sent off a support email to RSC. Fired up the sim again only to find Raildriver now not working! More time spent scouring forums and raising an incident with PI Engineering before I then re-installed the RD software and got it working again.DaveDewhurst wrote:No you don't, IIRC as long as Steam has been online and logged in as you at least once on your machine previously you can go offline without going online.jimmyshand wrote:You need to go online in order to turn Steam offline! Finally ready to take a drive only to find over 2 hours has gone by and the kids are due back at any moment so I shut down the PC and call it a night with a total mileage driven of 0.15. The joys of being a Railworker!
Re: Core PAtch this afternoon
If it is any form of consolation then today before work I fired up the PS3 for a spot of Gran Turismo 6 as the family had gone out. It then took an hour and a half to download an update and install andjust as iI prepared to fire it down the tarmac my wife calls to say she has omitted some important things from the baby's changing bag. By the time I got home it was enough to pick up my keys and a short and drive in, so car mileage of 0.0miles in around the goes off potential gameplay.jimmyshand wrote:Thanks, I'll bear that in mind for future updates! Still at least I can now paint the brake calipers on some of my cars and give them a fancy racing number.

Looks like it messed up the smoke whilst some locos are stationary, back to the old "Balloon" effect with DT and Meshtools locos only.
Drops the frame rates down, will take their locos off until a fix from DTG (again) or the loco producers.

Think I have tracked this down to me altering Players.bin to a custom resolution.. Instead of changing it on the go I put an old version back.ightenhill wrote:Well so much for the scenario ticks patch.. Mine have all disappeared again this morning

Re: Core PAtch this afternoon
Since this patch I seem to have a large number of files to be reacquired (4023 exactly) when I do a verify? They appear to be acquired, but if I run the program once I'm back to needing them again? Not noticed anything like this before - anyone else seem anything similar?

Think that always happens because hundred of files get changed the moment you start the game up. I wouldn't run a verify unless its a serious last resort for something broken

Thanks a lot for that information Trev, I didn't know you could do that, worked a treat.Trev123 wrote:Go into the Library on Steam and right click on Train Simulator 2014 and 3/4 of the way down the menu select Create Desktop Shortcut.alanch wrote:Anyone else surprised that they have released this patch and TS2014 still doesn't have an icon file? Re: Core PAtch this afternoon
Thanks for the response ightenhill, but this has definitely changed behaviour for me - previously when I've verified the small number of files reacquired matches the number of patch files I've applied (it can be more after a DLC download, which is why I usually do a verify). Now its 72MB of data that's reacquired! Maybe I'm worrying too much
