Is it me? WSR Modified Hall brakes not lapping?

Just bought WSR, and having a problem lapping the vacuum brake on the supplied Hall class.

The vacuum handle has release, running and apply positions, but won't lap. As soon as you go to back to running the brake quickly goes to full release as if the ejector is open, making braking a nightmare.

Am I doing something wrong? I'm trying steam for pretty much the first time, and noticed it's the only loco which seems to do do this.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

- Do you break from the F4 HUD, or from the controls in the cab?
- Can you check in the cab if the large & small ejector are in fact closed, or open?

B/c if the ejectors are open, then indeed, putting the brakes into 'Running' position will release them.

The small ejector can be checked from the F5 display but I'm not sure about the large ejector, perhaps it's only possible to check this from the position of the handle in the cab.

Cheers,

Hi Tim

Thanks for the reply.

I use the keyboard and have checked the small ejector and it's closed. In fact opening it (I hope it's the J key) makes no difference to the brake that I can see. The lever animates and there's a hissing so I assume I'm hitting the the right key!

I wonder if the large ejector is open by default on this loco, I'm not even sure what key operates it.

Incidentally I've since tried the SSS Mogul which came with the WSR members edition, and this works as expected, the small ejector is closed on startup and opening it will release the brake regardless of the brake handle position. The brake gauge holds when it's closed.

I remember having the issue you've highlighted with the modified Hall, and found it impossible to use....

However, very soon after the loco was released, the SSS Hall pack was updated to apply to this loco.. which also changed how the brakes work

I don't recall my experiences when driving this loco. I don't remember that anything was wrong/unusual with the brakes but perhaps I wasn't paying enough attention.

Are you driving in advanced mode, or not? (Use the 'b' key to toggle). I believe this affects the braking behaviour too - I can get into a wheelslip while stationary and 0 regulator with this loco!! Toggling 'advanced' mode will fix that.

Cheers & good luck,

Hi
I too have had problems with this loco i presume iti is 6960 Ravengham Hall drove it yesterday just to see what the new WSR Version is like the brakes take ages to come off,and when you brake they come on too strong if you know what i mean, maybe this is yet another problem regarding RSC,they aren't good at rectifying problems, not like Just trains

Sorry, only just had chance to come back to check the loco again. It is the same in both the advanced and normal mode. Thanks for the replies guys, at least I know it's a bug and not me doing something wrong.
